The forum rules just require a little tweaking from time to time, in an attempt to find a balance that suits. To be honest it's not far off balance as it is.

You know TBH I cant see a problem at the mo, except a shortage of the old members, but as stated what can we do, if they have decided CTW isnt for them anymore & if the others who feel uncomfortable, wont say exactly what the problem is, then what can we all do, I miss certain members who used to post more regularly, like dawn, Paula & so forth, but im gonna be seeing them soon, so the guyn is loaded & ready tongue.gif

people have now said a few things.....as alex said, maybe a little tweak of things is needed.

im not really a post starter and rely on other posts for me to post and i know ive not posted alot recently.

an online community is the same as a 'real world' community, if you meet a group of people, if you dont make an effort to join in then you wont be accepted/become known. some comments made may put newbies off, but unless the people posting the comments see that they will keep leaving. you only know someones humour once you get to know them.

as i say whenever these posts turn up......if the people stop posting because its 'not right for them' then the board wont evovle into something thats good for everyone. the community survives by people making an effort to keep things going.

finding the balance to suit everyone is hard, but if you walk away then it will never be found grouphug.gif

That is a good point, and I do agree smile.gif

The only problem with that though, is some people finding it harder to fit into an already-established community. It ain't always easy if you aren't a loud and totally confident person.

Yeh maybe, but it takes effort from all concerned IMO, I guess if you dont know anyone then it is harder, but end of the day, for me it is easier as im sat behind a pc screen, so feel it is easier to join in, rather than face to face on first meeting peeps, hey get in genral daydreamer, give it a go, you never know grin.gif

if you do show up at only one meet-up and talk to a lot of people, you'll fit in like a flash. i get the impression its the members that post but don't club that get this unwelcome feeling...

I'm not so sure about that mate. I think the site should be welcoming to people whether or not they have the intention (or opportunity) to come to meet-ups.

Some of the best banter I've had on CTW has been with people I have never met (or we had good banter before we did meet).

I do agree that there isn't enough banter any more ... I don't know if that's due to over-moderation and/or due to people leaving. I don't think it's to do with who does or doesn't go to meet-ups though.

I do think that some of the harshing has gone overboard in the past. A handful of the better-known members have used the fact that "everyone knows them" as justification for laying into people. Maybe it's only intended as banter, but the whole "I was 'blatantly' only joking" cliche doesn't always wash online. Fair enough if your clique of mates (who've met you in person) know it's only a joke, but it's all very well outwitting everyone with your contrived humour when 95% don't get it... what's the point, who are you trying to impress?

Banter and piss-taking is cool as long as it it's not just blatant bullying / one-upmanship / some sort of popularity contest. There's a happy medium between being "proactively nice" to members, and expecting them to have a reasonable degree of intelligence / "thick-skinnedness".

its a clubbing website and if someone joins, i'd expect them to go clubbing... there's plenty of meet-ups all over the country.

i was commenting on people showing up to the meet-ups leading to a more welcome feeling, not better banter. that's suffering for a different reason.

and as for the whole cliquey humour... i think thats fine. if i may make a joke that only a few people get, its intended for that. you can't expect everyone to make their banter accessible - its not like that. so called 'contrived humour' is contrived for the sake of it - its just humour aimed specifically for a few people and thats not intending to exclude others. to be fair, the most cliquey humour tends to be in the FAO forum anyway.

i'm extremly new to this board having only been here for less than a month, so dont know all the history, but so i've found CTW quite welcoming, and a much friendlier board.

One board that does seem to be full of sniping and back stabbing and all that bollox is the seriousworld board. At the moment, as far as i'm concerned as long as CTW doesnt end up like that, then its on the right lines smile.gif

well we need for more peeps to say they enjoy CTW, to maybe get spirits back up again, as i say to me it seems fine, just need to get some of the old members back, the existing ones to post more again & some new ones to help build it.

Everyone ive met, i like & the ones ive yet to meet, seem cool & look forward to meeting them, come on guys, it's far better than alot of the other message boards out there, we do have a special bond all of us. grouphug.gif

but at some point in life you have to take the plunge and be counted. i made the effort and at the time i joined ctw you could have put me in that exact bracket. i didnt become a 'recognised' member for quite a while, it took some investment of my time and energy to make myself accepted.

as far as im concerned you get out of life what you put in, nothing is given to you on a plate. if you wait for things to come to you then youll be waiting along time.
