woo hoo another way to be tracked by "big brother". Fuck'um i say!! £30 for it and it's a like it or lump it. You don't have to have a passport if you don't want to travel, but you have to have a ID card and we're making you pay. If the government want it they should pay, we pay enough in bloody tax as it is!!

Apparently they say it will help children. Why because its' tracking them? So it must be tracking us too. You wouldn't be able to go anywhere without being tracked. SOD THAT!!!

lol.gif but we show our passports when we go abroad now so its really no difference,

This is true, but my only guess is, it will possibly prevent forged passports etc shrug.gif

Can anyone say without a doubt that the card will actually do us good?

How will it make things safer?

How will it benefit me?

Why would it prevent terrorist attacks?

Why would it have an effect on illegal immigrants?

I just need a little more convincing than "stores hold more data on you" and "if you haven't anything to hide then you shouldn't worry"

I don't own a store card and I pay for most things by cash.

If the idea of being tracked by a little chip that sends out signals giving our locations is such a big problem why is it not a problem for us all to carry our mobile phones everywhere we go? As I said earlier I don't doubt that there are some aspects to this card and it's uses that people will have problems with, BUT all of the things that have been pointed out so far are things that, given enough incentive, anyone in power will be able to do anyway.

I have no problem with the fee either...I have no qualms about paying for something when it makes sense...I still have my old fashioned drivers licence (couldn't see the point in the new photo card ones ironically smile.gif) and haven't got round to getting my passport renewed so perhaps the reason I don't mind the fee is that it's going to save me money!

I still think it's a good idea though, a card that contains relevant data so that the authorities can see what they need to see quickly as opposed to having to search through antiquated filing systems and loads of red tape...the potential ramifications of that on the healthcare industry alone make this worthwhile as far as I can see.

But as I said earlier I could be wrong...but i'm yet to see anything to convince me otherwise.

I can thankfully turn off my Mobile Phone, not too sure about government owned schemes for tracking us though.

We are a cynical bunch on this board. Whether for or against an idea, cynicism always seems to creep in. lol.gif

I'm not sure what the point in the card is anymore, if you can leave it at home, refuse to show it when asked, why have it in the first place?

I understand why we have drivers licenses and passports, but an additional card to prove I live in this country above all the other means of identification I carry, but this time with more personal data stored, I just don't feel comfortable with this. It's getting a little too Nazi Germany for me.

Could prove costly. lol.gif

By leaving at home, I had heard that it isn't going to be compulsory to carry the card or produce it when asked.
