CTW Members charliefunkuk Posted March 14, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted March 14, 2003 http://www.brighterdays.co.uk THE LAUNCH PARTY SATURDAY 29th MARCH 2003 - 9:00pm till 6:00am at PACHA, VICTORIA, LONDON, SW1 featuring an EXCLUSIVE UK performance from The First Ladies Of CHIC Norma Jean Wright & Luci Martin The Original Vocalists with supergroup CHIC!!! with DJ Support From JOEY NEGRO (Jakatta) NEIL FEARNLEY ROB ACTESON Live Percussion By: Jay On Drums Room 2 - Hosted By Flipp Joey Musaphia (Refunkt) Steven Bird - Gareth Plant We are proud to announce the first UK appearance in over 20 years of legendary disco divas Norma Jean Wright and Luci Martin, the original lead vocalists with super-group CHIC. While successful in their own right, it was with Nile Rodgers’ seminal group that the girls became the voices of a thousand hits. Chic’s incredible legacy has provided a sample library for latter day producers ever since, from Grandmaster Flash at the start of the eighties, to today, when it seems that every few weeks another pseudo-disco cut-up hits the shelves, owing more than a passing nod to Nile, Bernard and the girls. Having secured the services of Norma Jean and Luci, there could only be one choice for our headline DJ. Although Joey Negro’s name has exploded in the last two years thanks to his Jakatta projects, his name has been synonymous with quality soulful house and disco for almost the last two decades. The icing on the cake for us is the fact that one of his biggest hits, (Joey Negro feat. Taka Boom - “Saturday”), is a cover of a track originally recorded by none other than Norma Jean Wright. As well as performing their showcase, Norma Jean and Luci will also be freestyling over the dj’s sets, and the combination of the girls and Joey Negro is one that we personally cannot wait for. Also spinning in the main room will be residents Rob Acteson and Neil Fearnley. Rob was resident dj and co-founder of some of London’s most feted soulful house clubs, such as Feel Real and Strictly Rhythm, and was a regular fixture at all the leading warehouse parties in the heady days of 1988. He is currently hosting his Rising event at Turnmills. Neil broadcasts his weekly mix show on Mix 96 in the Home Counties, and appears at events all over the World. He has guested at clubs all over the capital ranging from Ministry of Sound, Bagleys, Rouge and Pacha through to regular slots at Garage City to name but a few, although he spends most of his DJ’ing hours behind the decks in Europe. The final piece in the main room jigsaw is the incredible Jay-on-Drums, the best club percussionist in the UK by a mile. Not only does he have the stamina of Paula Radcliffe, (regularly playing 6 hour sets), but his timing and rhythmic construction are simply breath taking. Above all, he plays WITH what is going on, rather than over it. Our mission with Brighter Days is to provide a totally interactive experience, for the artists, dj’s and audience alike, and hope that our crowd will play as active a part as any of the performers. While we embrace future music and technology, we will not be afraid to pay homage to our influences, be it within the DJ’s sets or with the artists that we book.
