CTW Members moide Posted March 18, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted March 18, 2003 it'd be interesting to see what would happen if the big name DJs were scheduled to play at, say, 1am or 2am, and the other less well-known DJs played afterwards; I think you'd see a drop in numbers after the big name finished their set. which is why they are booked to play as late as poss!!!!!! CTW Members Belle Posted March 18, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted March 18, 2003 belle> fair point! i suppose if you can't go to sleep then there is no point going home, but it's the casualties that you see just wandering aimlessly about the dancefloor that make me just think "is it all worth it?" this might make me sound like an old man but if you're getting to the stage where you're taking more and more drugs just so you can stay awake and see the big DJ of the night -- because he's scheduled to play at 4am -- rather than staying because you're having a really good time and it's the excitement that's keeping you awake, then having clubs shut at 7/8am (or 11am) just seems to be stretching it too far, and moving too far away from what it was originally all about not so long ago (i.e. people just getting together and having a dance) turning it into a competition to see who can stay up the latest, or how many biscuits one can munch. it'd be interesting to see what would happen if the big name DJs were scheduled to play at, say, 1am or 2am, and the other less well-known DJs played afterwards; I think you'd see a drop in numbers after the big name finished their set. that's a cool perspective. as I said tho', things don't get started until 3 or 4 am, so it's only the newbies that are getting messed up early it usually starts with a local warm up, a headliner or two, and someone to finish off if headliners were playing at 1 or 2 am, the club would likely open at 10 or 11 am, and close at 6 it's just the way it is here, I think probably because afterhours clubs don't sell alcohol, so when the bars close, an influx of partygoers show up. this is generally when the places get filled. if the headliners were to play too early, I think they'd wind up playing in 1/2 full clubs................not to say they can't fill the place, it's just the culture here I spose?! And speaking of biscuits, I think generally things are different over here....they're rather expensive club prices go from 20 - 25 $ a pill (about 10 - 13 UK pounds I think), so we don't pop em like smarties hehe, or most don't neway. I agree with what you said btw about the casualties wandering around.......I've learned just to ignore it, cos it's just part of it?! In summary, a club wouldn't survive over here if it only opened till 6, cos alcohol is sold late, and it's too much competition. To be honest, I [censored] about 16 hours on Fridays, and Friday nite is the big going out nite here, best djs are in town, so I'm usually done by 7 or 8 anyways.....even with substance help, I just can't take it anymore gnite!!!! CTW Members ellekay Posted March 18, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted March 18, 2003 And I think my night would have to be very varied....lots of small rooms, dj's hmmmm Paul Van Dyk, DJ Zinc, Bad Company, Plump DJ's, Scratch Perverts, Peshay, can't think of any more at the moment. There would be the biggest softest sofa's ever and a great chill out room, which members could stay in after the club closed...... What do u think of these Breakbeat specialists? There in Peterborough soon! I used 2 jump geography, wheres Peterborough? I'd have 2 have a funky room with Colin H, and a Hardcore/Old Skool room with the likes of Sharkey, DJ Sy that man is the master when it comes 2 scratchin! CTW Members TomD Posted March 18, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted March 18, 2003 if the headliners were to play too early, I think they'd wind up playing in 1/2 full clubs................not to say they can't fill the place, it's just the culture here I spose?! fair enough! I think my opinions about this stretch too far beyond this thread. it's just the way I see if, having a club end at say 6/7am (or of course 11am especially) is totally artificially extending the life of a night. IMHO a club shouldn't necessarily be all about drinking enough Red Bull or necking enough pills to keep you awake. consider if you were round at a mate's flat party and you were only *drinking*, an average flat party would start winding up around, say, what, 5 or 6am? if you then translate that to a club environment... oh I dunno, I have quite interesting opinions on the matter. I just think that a night should end only so slightly after its *peak*, where everyone's almost as excited as charged as high as they're going to be, (i.e. maybe 4 or 5am, well in the UK anyway) because then the night starts going downhill and I think it's always better to end on a high rather than a low, where everyone's starting to trickle out of a club, and nobody has enough energy to do very much any more. nuff said though, i think my view's the odd-one-out here...
