CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted April 8, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted April 8, 2003 Heres a topic i would like ppls views on. I listened to the new futureshock album for the 1st time y'day and although alot of the tracks were good I thought that it just sounded very "now" Not sure what other ppl think but if i was to release an artist album i would want ppl to be able to listen to the cd in a few years down the line and still think it sounded good. Whereas i feel that if i listened to the futureshock album in 6 months i think it will sound very dated. Got me to thinkin about other albums, sashas "wavy gravy", Underworlds Dinosaur adveture(or woteva its called) Marco Vs Confusion, Lisa pin ups baddist mutha album sampler to name just a few. These all will not stand the test of time. Although all of them contain some top tunes they will all disappear without anyone really noticing them. Just thought of another Timo Mass "loud" - Forgotten. So is it worth these kind of ppl releasing albums or should they just stick to singles? Look at Prodigys "music for the gilted generation" how old is that, and i still listen to it 2day. CTW Members TomD Posted April 8, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted April 8, 2003 fair point, dinosaur adventure 3d is the wankest and most "now" track off a hundred days off... the rest of the album i don't think will date that much... although it will prob date more than underworld's older LPs. i agree with what you're saying though. there's a few albums i have back at home which sound proper dated now. trying to think of an example but i can't. meh. CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted April 9, 2003 Author CTW DJs Share Posted April 9, 2003 Not sayin that the material on the album isnt good, just that it doesnt really feel like an album. More just a collection of 12inch singles Quote LiamStyles Bet you look good on the dancefloor *LiamStyles - mixes on rotation* Current mix "No Concept Of Time" CLICK HERE
CTW DJs Ian Cashman Posted April 9, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted April 9, 2003 Not sayin that the material on the album isnt good, just that it doesnt really feel like an album. More just a collection of 12inch singles thats the difference between an album and a compilation tho...with dance its hard to find the balance
CTW Members Blink Posted April 9, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted April 9, 2003 This is my biggest "gripe" about the dance scene as a whole, a lot of it is very "now", and forgotten in 6 months time, not that I am saying all tunes are like that, you do get classics, and then some artists (like Lab 4) manage it. But I am still listening to (rock) albums that were release up to 20 years ago, and some of it still gets played in clubs.

CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted April 9, 2003 Author CTW DJs Share Posted April 9, 2003 Oh sorry mate see wot your gettin at. I totally agree. Defeats the object of it being an album. I see an album as an in depth look into a producers personality. It should contain all aspects of your musical tastes and influences. If lisa pin up can say that her album is that, she is a very dull women. I have been working on my 1st artist album for 6months now and it is totally eclectic. Hopefully it will all gel together when its finished, as its shows all sides to me as a producer Quote LiamStyles Bet you look good on the dancefloor *LiamStyles - mixes on rotation* Current mix "No Concept Of Time" CLICK HERE
