CTW Members Blink Posted May 9, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted May 9, 2003 At Telford, there are 3 rules which differ significantly to the National Highway Code i) Speed limit, a speed at which you are not allowed to travel. You may excede this limit, or travel below it, but you must not travel at this speed. Ideally we recommend you are at least 10mph away from it. IE 60 MPH speed limit you must travel at either 70mph ii) Roundabouts, when approaching roundabouts, ALWAYS stay in the left hand lane, no matter which exit you are taking, and remain in the left hand lane until you reach your turning. iii) Indicators. Indicators are merely a value added extra, which can be disposed of to facilitate the purchase of a slightly newer car. We advise that you retain the plastic covers, so as to maintain the pretence of having indicators, and so as to not leave any unseemly holes in the bodywork. The actual bulb, wiring and other indication apparatus can be removed as it serves no function, and will save you approximately £50 on the cost of your car. Is there are listing somewhere of all the local variations on the Highway Code, so that people can check up before they travel, much as you would when travelling to a foreign country? CTW Members Magicman Posted May 9, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted May 9, 2003 Looks like the rules for Crawley mate, although there is another one which says you must not travel on a public highway without blasting out garage music at high volume. CTW Members rachel Posted May 9, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted May 9, 2003 In Bedfordshire the round about rule is slightly different in that you must stay in the right hand lane at all times. The 30mph rule is none existant in these parts no one ever travels that slowly especially in built up areas and near schools, and anyone who does is frowned upon. CTW Members Xenny Posted May 11, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted May 11, 2003 Hey Blink, it took me a while to realise that Coventry had it's own variations. Namely: 1) Never slow down to let anyone pull out of a parking space, and if it looks like they're about to pull out, then speed up to whatever speed necessary to make sure you block their exit. 2) Wear a frown whilst at the wheel. I've mastered both brilliantly, and now fit in pretty well. Quote Too far gone
CTW Members goshow Posted May 11, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted May 11, 2003 In Telford that doesn't surprise me. I played in an ice-hockey tournament there a few years ago i found three things very strange. 1, we found it very difficult to locate a decent pub, infact any pubs (ended up in the calais/cally or something like that) 2, No people walking the streets in the evenings. It was like a ghost town. 3, No bloody taxi's. It took 2hrs for us to get one. Having said all that it was a nice hotel
CTW Members Phil rr Posted May 11, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted May 11, 2003 lol @ urs There are various ways of gaining access to a car. Doors and the boot are one option (these are clean and organised), but feel free to use any windows for instant access. Please bear in mind that you will probably require some heavy sharp or blunt object to remove the presence of the window which is serving as a display for the contents of the car. You will need to observe some shattered glass, most of this should fall inside the car and you will need to make sure you do not harm yourself when reaching inside to remove the contents. best regards Basingstoke.
