CTW Promotors SarahPVC Posted August 18, 2002 CTW Promotors Share Posted August 18, 2002 Insomniacz returns to Sheffield after what seems like a lifetime and we travelled to Sheffield with a few questions in our heads - would the new Insomniacz venue be better than the last one? The National Centre for Popular Music never really proved to be anywhere as good as when Insomniacz was at Corporation or Uropa. The answer became apparent as soon as we walked in the door. YES! The atmosphere, the venue, the tunes - it was just like the old days!! The Adelphi is an old cinema/theatre converted to nightclub with a square layout and upper balcony. The sound system is excellent but just for my personal taste there could have been more lasers! Although the club was busy there was plenty of space to dance on the dancefloor or up on the balcony. We just arrived (and rather late at that due to a long drive up from London) to see Nick Rafferty taking over from Andy Farley. He played a classic set of tunes ranging from 1999-2001 (as this was the theme of the night) including Jonah 'Ssst...Listen' and BK's Revolution. Simon Eve, Ian Barker & Iain Roberts were the other DJs of the night, all continuing the classic tunes theme, finally finishing with the Paul Glazby remix of 'Dreams'. Fantastic!! The only downside was the lack of drinking water. Bottled water ran out at around midnight so the barstaff provided water on tap behind the bar and charged for it which we personally thought was a bit cheeky. Everyone's comment of the night was 'This is just like the old days!' Insomniacz is definatley here to stay in Sheffield!! My rating......9/10 [ 19 August 2002, 13:13: Message edited by: SarahPvc ] Quote INCISION Leeds - 23rd Jan - Passion Records Tour Night!!
