Fave films

So I'm sad to be sat at home on a Friday evening and hiring dvds - hands up, it's a fair cop. However, films are something I'm really into and I've just seen a couple of corkers...so I was just wondering whether you peeps like the old silver screen and if so what are your fave movies.

Particularly love Robert de Niro (Raging Bull and all the scorsese gangsta fliks), but also really like Crouching Tiger, Any Given Sunday and The Matrix at the mo.

Small suggestion for anybody driven to blockbuster this weekend - don't get Beautiful Mind and Vanilla Sky out at the same time...particularly if you're on any sort of comedown. The combination of an imbalanced mind and an alternative reality could shake the most stable head... laugh.giflaugh.gif

Okay, who fancies strapping themselves down, taking some heavy duty pharmaceuticals and watching (back-to-back) Momento, Vanilla Sky, The Matrix, Beautiful Mind and The Trueman Show. frown.gifcrazy.gifconfused.gifcrazy.giffrown.gif

Anyone...? Nobody then.... okay, if I don't post for a while it's because they don't have web access in the nuthouse wink.gif

I like smoking a rake of weed and watching a good comedy with the mates and seeing who can hold out the longest before bursting out with laughter and making everyone start ... bloody great... I'm terrible I usually end up curled up on the floor with really bad pains in my side and tears in my eyes (sounds like a good basis for a song that) smile.gif

Favourite comedy

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

This film just makes me crack up all the time get stoned and watch it... it's even better watching it the second time I start laughing before it even starts now.

Favourtie film thou is the Deer Hunter

First film that ever made me cry and there isn't many others if any that have.

Watched it first when I was about 15 on my own so I might have been going through an emotional stage anyhow smile.gif but a really good film.

Alasdair,

Have to admit I often forget that old films can be good too...tis without a doubt a corking film, although I haven't seen it for donkeys. I'm a bit prejudiced against totally old films - but you can't deny the quality of the acting and direction.

Good call...

Ian and Numb - I like your style! wink.gif

Dark star is seriously warped (anything with Richard O'Brien is...just look at the old (much better!) series of the Crystal Maze).

Glory was the only film on BigE's best list that I don't own - seen it, liked it, not enough to buy - Denzel's v. good though. Training Day has recently joined the stable - mainly on the strength of DW again!

A great film for getting caned and pissing your pants to has to be South Park : Bigger, Longer and Uncut. Crude, Lewd and just plain wrong....i.e. utterly right wink.gif

Deer Hunter - outstanding. Bob is the best actor around. If I survive the headfuck challenge, anybody fancy some russian roulette... tongue.gif

The Goonies is definitely number 1 in my all-time greats. I ordered it on region 1 DVD about 9 months ago, because you can't get it in region 2, that's how desperate I was to own a copy. Deleted scenes !! Yes !!

Then, in no particular order, some of the other films I love:

The Blues Brothers

Ring (Hideo Nakata film)

Withnail & I

Full Metal Jacket

The Shining

Marx Brothers films (GREAT! going to see Day At The Races and Night At The Opera ins Kino this afternoon.. YES !!!!)

Monty Python films (how original)

Serial Mom

Braindead

Blazing Saddles

Plus literally millions of others. But you probably wouldn't find me in front of something like The English Patient.

Rented 'Happiness' on dvd last night. It's so sidesplittingly funny it's untrue. Although some people might find it the whole paedo thing a bit sick. But what the hell, I pissed myself anyway.

I haven't seen Requiem For A Dream yet but apparently it's on Filmfour this month so I'm gonna check it out, and make sure I'm in a decent mood before I start watching!

Tell us more about Slapshot....sounds interesting even though I've never really been an ice-hockey man.

Can't believe people are talking about Goonies - me and my flatmate were lamenting just the other day that they never seem to show this at Xmas anymore...Hey, you guuuuys!!!! wink.gif

Dark Star, god, I can't beleive I haven't seen that film in a while. When they harpoon the alien (beach ball), and it flies around the room, and he says something along the lines of "Man, it really was just made of air"

Must admit I am sad and quote my too fave films as Highlander and Terminator. I was only young at the time.
