The other day me and James were sat eating a meal in this nice pizza place, when we started having a conversation that i have been thinking about alot since.

we wer talking about clubbing, ( i cant remember the whole conversation) and James replied:

"well your not a proper clubber!"

i was a bit taken back buy this...... and would like to propose the question

What is a proper clubber??

i hear this term used alot on the site, and i have alot of issues about it! can it be a censored word/s????

my issues

1) the words proper cluber are used all the time on the site. and is it right that just becouse i cant afford to go out every weekend, i am not classed as a proper clubber??? .

believe me if i earnt more money and i wasent a student i would be going out every weekend. And believe me i do think about it every weekend!!

2) what does the term "proprer clubber" exactly mean????

to me the term means, someone who takes part in regular clubbing events/big night out. Not only that but making an effort when they go out to show a kean interst in clubbing; however to someone else this term could mean a whole number of things.

I personally find this term; "PROPER CLUBBER" to be a very specific one. i think its quite offensive, and personlly i see myself as a proper clubber! where as other people may not see me as that!?!??!

i was just wondering what peoples views on this subject is!!??

what is a propper clubber??

Soph, as discussed - the term "Proper Clubber" shouldnt really be used - I was sort of taking the p*ss as someone was using it to describe me a few weeks ago ! (who shall remain nameless unless Kev wants to name hehe)

all i think of as proper clubber is someone who goes to decent clubs and not pulling joints ie: eros, hippodrome, w/end sleazy joints etc, clubs wiv good music, not dire like 70s, r n b etc. their the clubs my old m8s go to, i say old m8s as I jsut can't b arsed to go to thsoe sort've places anymore and they have the hump that i've found pastures new and greener and seem to think i've deserted them. I'm not syaing if once in a while u go to these dumps it doens't make u a proper clubber but peeps that only go to these dens in my books r not proper clubbers, so there tongue.gifgrin.gif

Someone that enjoys the music and the atmosphere for what they're worth to me is a proper clubber. No complaining about everything and anything.

If you go to say IBIZA, and come back and write up an ENTIRE review of all the [censored] that you had to endure....I'm not sure Sophie that I'd consider that person a proper clubber.

I am NOT a dj

For me, it is ALL about the music, I like to look good when I go out (who doesn't?), but it isn't a fashion parade, it is all about the music. I get people who have a go, and say I don't put in enough effort in how I look, and that I'm not a "proper clubber". I also know people who go out clubbing to socialise, or get munted and just sit around, I sometimes wonder if they even notice the music, that to me isn't a "proper clubber". I can quite happily go out on my own, camp out on the dancefloor, and dance the night away, without saying anything (other than offering the occasional cute woman some chewing gum)

This term annoys me, cos I got told people who basically don't know every track name, what mix it is what EXACT genre it, and whathe DJs mothers maiden name is! (slight exageration)

I'm not saying this is how any of you think, but I do know people who do think this. So I'm not a proper clubber, I just go clubbing. confused.gif

me thinks not wink.gif

I think the point Soph makes is also very valid and sometimes forgotten, just because someone isnt out every single weekend clubbing doesnt mean they dont want to be, there are lots of variables to take into consideration like 'money' - Big E hit the nail on the head when I spoke to him the other day when he said that its only when you get a bit older that you can actually afford all the entry fees and spend money on clubbing gear etc.. as you have a job.

If i've used the term 'Proper Clubber' myself in the past it was merely because I was praising someone for being such a superb individual but wasnt necessarily refering to his/her clubbing habits - will stop using this term as now its been used against me I know its total bullsh*t - hehe

I've been thinking about this phrase some more on the train - I cant remember where I first heard it but the term I use and will continue to use is "Dedicated Clubber" which basically means someone who is really into the music, multiple clubs and most importantly reliable and "up for it" as possible as often.

As many of you know the reason I set this site up was because I got really f*cked off with my mates letting me down all the time at the last minute, or, if they did show up were only interested in going 'local' and never prepared to pay over £3 to get in a club (i.e. they stuck to the cheap meatmarkets instead). It is these types of people who I describe as not being 'dedicated clubbers', hence not 'proper' but I agree the term 'proper' should be dropped.

PROPER CLUBBER? THAT WORD SHOULD NEVA BE USED IN MY OPINION....ITS LIKE PUTTING YASELF INTO A STEREO TYPE OR SAYING U ARE HEAPS BETTER THAN A REAGULAR PERSON THAT DOESN'T GO CLUBBING EVERY WEEKEND BUT LUVS IT WHEN THEY DO! HA......I GO CLUBBING EVERY WEEKEND I DONT CALL MYSELF A PROPER CLUBBER....IT JUST SOUNDS LIKE U R BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE.....EVERYONE IS EQUAL JUST GOING 2 A CLUB 2 C YA FAV DJ OR YA MATES... THATS WHAT COUNTS IN MY OPINION

GO HARD OR GO HOME
