I guess this topic should really be "What types of people aren't proper clubbers" - rather than defaulting to people thinking their clubberbility is up for question.

EVERYONE ON THIS SITE IS A PROPER CLUBBER BECAUSE YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY INTERESTED IN MUSIC OR CLUBBING TO BE HERE / POST.

Some clubs are classed as 'proper' clubs though while some are classed as 'cheesy'!

Examples - 'proper' clubs - sundissential, insomniacz, Tidy London, Frantic, Storm, Godskitchen.

Examples - 'cheesy' clubs - Ikon & Diva - York

Is it the people that make them 'proper' or the music or the fact that in 'proper' clubs the majority of people take drugs while in cheesy clubs the majority of people drink alcohol.

I think its a combinations most of the things you mentioned. What makes a proper club is the ppl, the music and the atmosphere. If any one of the above things are missing, then its prob going to turn out to be a [censored] night !!! smile.gif

What makes a proper club is the ppl, the music and the atmosphere.

i can't agree with that. other people would define it differently. as soon as one group attempts to hijack the term 'proper', what they are saying is, essentially, that their definition of what constitutes a 'proper' club is more valuable than somebody else's. i don't think that's right.

these are subjective human issues - like art, love and so many other things there is no right and wrong, good and bad, proper or not. just different.

I agree with you to a point, but most of us probably share the same set of common values and beliefs as to what constitutes a good club or not. If we were to conduct a straw poll as to what ppl most liked about proper clubs (I use the word proper loosely), we would probably all agree about certain things. Peoples taste in music will obviously be different, but I think that most ppl would rather be in an environment full of happiness than an environment of pissed up wankers spoiling for a fight !!!

i do agree with what you are saying about those things being subjective, but I believe we are on common ground here as a group, else there would be nothing holding us together as a group .... if that makes sense ??

Alasdair or - can you please give me a term whereby I can describe 'reliable' clubbers who are always up for it and wont let you down at the last minute with some poxy excuse ?

This is what I used to class as 'not a proper clubber' or 'not a dedicated clubber' - I'm quite happy to drop these terms if they can be replaced - maybe I should just used the full descriptions ?

By the way what originally sparked this particular topic was Soph saying that I said she wasnt a proper clubber - this was in fact a bit of a joke I made as I and 2 other members had previously been called "not a proper clubber" whilst out in Ibiza by another member - which made me laugh.

Also, you would never catch them at a festival.

Festivals? Mud, rain, over-priced "pish", long queues for tiny cubicles smelling remarkably similar to the "pish" you were over-charged for an hour earlier, dancing on mud, getting turned over by the wide-boys who had gone there just to find mashed-up "weirds" like you to turn over, and then either waiting hours for the "bus" to take you to the train station, sitting for hours in your mud-covered/broken-into car, waiting for all the other mud-covered/broken-into cars to get the feck out of the way, or you could retire under your own, personal, pished-on tarpaulin, and curl up in your sleeping bag.

If being a "proper clubber" means experiencing that, I resign my commision, and will go back to my sticky-floored, over-priced, but bottled, beers, "pish" smelling cubicles that won't blow over in the wind, and getting turned over by bouncers looking for mashed-up "weirdos" like me so they can sell on my sweeites to someone else, and wondering around in random towns until public transport starts again!

I'm with you Dogz but some like alcohol and some like 'other stuff' - each to their own - we cant diss people for enjoying any substance.

How about proper mates confused.gif

I think that it may well do. It would be interesting to know how many of the people who take nasties in a club setting and are all nice are really angry heads when on the beer !! smile.gif

Term for someone who is always up for it

"Hardcore Motherfucker"

It is a song by Ultraviolence, and the chorus "Hardcore Motherfucker" fits over just about anything with a Four To The Floor beat. It was mine and my friends term last summer when everyone else was falling over about 8am, and we were off to yet another afterparty, cos we were "Hardcore"

Can someone close this topic, its all complete arse and to be honest - BOLLOX! No one has the right to say whos a [censored] "proper clubber" and who aint so sssshhhh!

The term "proper clubber" was invented by a one Miss Tara Scarfe - due to mine, James and others apparent West End nights - so if anyone has a problem with this whole load of crap then speak to her!

Thank you!

The End!

PS. Whoever voted this post a 5 star (James) deserves to be shot up the arse because its no way worth a 5! All my individual posts derserve a 5 because they are educational and people learn from my wide range of knowledge! Like who shot Postman Pat way back in March!

PSS. And whoever did shoot him deserves to be shot in the arse as well because Pat is a decent bloke!

PSSS. Theres gonna be alot of arse shooting!

PSSSS. Why do I keep talking about arses ?!?!?

PSSSSS. [censored] off Creamy!

must admit - I dont think the attendance of festivals come into the 'proper clubber' algorithm - I personally think a lot of festivals are overated - I mean its not like you can be in all tents at once - and I only visit the hard house tent, which is well muddy ! yuk !
