The seconded one in my eyes was just pants!!  It tried to pad out the characters but failed in doing so.  I loved the parts where he did the style of the film in the kung fu style in the second installment, i.e. with the master.  That was pure class. I really enjoyed the first one but the second was a joke- the pace was massively slow compared to the first, the dialogue was just plain bad (and this is usually one of Tarantino's strengths).

 

The character Bill was utterly dull- did we remotely understand why all those people were prepared to kill for him? No!

 

It just didn't seems to have anything in common with the first film and the homage to kung fu films was just plain silly... if you try to parody parody you end up as a parody and to my mind that's what ended up happening- by the end of the film I felt I was watching highlights of Quentin's favourite films rather than any sort of coherent film...

 

and it was at least an hour too long.

 

Sadly this is what happens when someone is so 'successful' they become untouchable... exactly the same as JK Rowling. Both need a headstrong editor to have told them to cut things down a lot.

 

I was a huge Tarantino fan (seen RD and PD countless times at the cimena), but after this and Jackie Brown I'm beginning to think he's disappeared up his own arse...
