Its reasons like this the sex offenders register and suspected peodophiles should always be kept out of public view. Never know what sort of idiots are out there to do things like this....

And I bet they think they are in the right too unsure.gif

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? And even if he was guilty, we have a justice system to deal with these people not take things into our own hands.

Ermm, not to try cause friction, but I sense a bit of hypocrisy - we say how awful mob mentality is, then come out with stuff like 'lock the fuckers up'.

Yeah but it's the whole Daily Mail type 'lock em up and throw away the key' attitude to criminals which I object to.

It would be hypocritical to say how barbaric a person was and then go out and commit a babaric act upon those who you're objecting to.

It would be a sensible approach to give these people a harsher than normal sentences in an attempt to put off other "vigilantes" from commiting similar acts, in their black and white view of the law.

Or maybe perhaps focus on rehabillitating them so that they don't commit the same type of crime again, rather than just focus on punishing them.

This country's obsession with punishment and 'giving them what they deserve' is why the prison system doesn't work and so many people reoffend, if we focussed on the underlying causes of their behaviour and tried to help them then it would be much more successful. I know I probably haven't explained myself properly but I need to get off the internet and do some work now.

Maybe a combination of Imprisonment and Rehab is a better solution then?

I have a friend in prison. His crime, having the misfortune to be involved in an car accident where another man died (leaving my friend unable to remember what had happened or anything of the following two weeks after the accident.)

He was travelling 55mph in a 40mph, stupid move on his part (the road used to be a 60mph zone not long before the accident)

He is now serving 3 and a half years.

Rehabilitation would be a better way forward, by far.

He is currently spending his time with lads who are in prison for stabbings, burglary and various other crimes. He see's some of them come in serve a few months, leave and then return for commiting the same or another crime.

The current deterant ethos doesn't really put off criminals or go noticed by those who have an accident which leads to prison (who would think that the little trip to the shops would lead to prison?). Maybe a dual scheme is needed, deterant and rehabilitation, with a focus on rehabilitation.

He may be allowed out after a year and a half on the tagging scheme as the prison is running out of room.

Then again there are those who are beyond rehabilitation and should be kept away from the public where ever possible.

i think it is next to impossible to rahabilitate a paedo.

its not a choice, same as homosexuals couldnt be rehabilitated to be straight

Do you think it's possible to be a paedophile and not take advantage of kids? I do.

Sure, you can't stop someone's feelings of sexual attraction towards whatever they are attracted to but you can attempt rehabillitate someone so that they don't commit crimes against those that are vulnerable.
