Since my flat mate had a small chip pan fire yesterday, i've decided that it might be a good idea if i insure my DJ equipment and records.

Does anyone know of any good insurance companies that do this?

With us, you'd need a written valuation, which would be pretty hard to get. Maybe ask someone like Direct Line or Norwich Union how to do it.

I wonder if the big DJs have insurance on all their records.

Just had a look at MusicGuard and they can insure for the total loss of all records and CDs if they are trashed or stolen. I just have to supply a full catalogue listing

I'm sure Big Name DJ's must insure their stuff, if they lost their tunes then they loose their life

Read the small-print mate. As far as I can make out, MusicGuard don't give you any more cover than a standard home-contents insurer, which you'll have anyway if you're sensible! smile.gif

"Total loss" means just that - you're not covered if only part of your collection is stolen, e.g. if you take a subset of your collection to a gig and somebody half-inches your record box.

Yeah, have had quite a few people tell me to do Contents on this, but to specifically record each item and its value, so reckon thats the way forward.
