CTW DJs Tony P Posted December 30, 2002 CTW DJs Share Posted December 30, 2002 Save up a bit more mate and get yourrself some technics. They hold their value and you will regret buying anything else........TRUST ME, I done the same thing when i first started mixing and it was such a waste of money as i ended up getting Technics. CTW Members Blink Posted December 30, 2002 CTW Members Share Posted December 30, 2002 Having never tried full-on, realtime beat-matching and mixing, what are you looking for in decks, and why does everyone rave so much about technics (please, a technical description, not a "cos they are [censored] ace" type reply) Maybe a novice guide to decks. ie - why direct drive as oposed to belt drive, what is direct drive (IE is the motor literally attached to the decks)

CTW Members Blink Posted December 30, 2002 CTW Members Share Posted December 30, 2002 Claire, do you know any sites that are a bit more in-depth? IE I have a 16ch mixing desk with Low, Hi, and sweepable mid-EQ, what is the difference between that and a DJ mixing desk (surely all you need to do is mix 2 singles, and mess about with the EQ to smooth the transitions, and do some funky stuff?) CTW Members goshow Posted December 31, 2002 CTW Members Share Posted December 31, 2002 Blink, the main difference between belt drive and direct drive is that, on belt drives the main drive motor is connected to the turntable plattern via a belt, similar to the way the chain connects the pedals to the wheel on a push bike. direct drive means that the motor spindle is directly below the turntable plattern. The advantage of this being lots more torque and faster pick up of the plattern when your queing or starting a record. Did that help in any way?
