CTW Members Simon_C1562626685 Posted January 23, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted January 23, 2003 I'm still pretty new to mixing, despite having my decks for over a year, and one of the main problems i'm having is getting the volume levels the same when i'm mixing from one tune to the next. Is there any was u can monitor this reasonably acurately, any help on this would be very useful. As would any other help Quote you need me i'm magic E, hehe
CTW Reviewers Wub Wub Posted January 24, 2003 CTW Reviewers Share Posted January 24, 2003 You could use the gains to get the levels right on the LED's first, and match them that way. Quote Harder. CTW Members Mr Happy Posted January 25, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted January 25, 2003 alot of it is by ear as well imo i have this 1 industerial techno tune i drop just b4 a dull hard house tune (has a wicked breakdown but the tune itself is a bit dull) to spice it all up ne way - i think that the industrial techno tune is on the eq levels as being queiter even tho it sound louder! y? its cuz the the tune uses v basic sounds with a little distortion in it already so the sounds r more pronaounced Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
CTW Members Biron Posted January 25, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted January 25, 2003 As i dont have volume meters for each channel on my mixer i usually put both channels on my headphones and then use the gains to get the levels near enough the same but i always keep the volume of the tune im bringing in slighty lower than the one that is already being played, then adjust the gains when they are both in.I also keep the bass of the tune that im bringing up less than the tune that is being played as well and then swap the bass levels around when the bassline kicks in.It makes the new bassline sound a lot more intense Quote ***slighty insane-its the only way to be!***

I bring my tunes in subtelly as wel but its no good bringing a tune in if the volumes of it is way higher then the tune already being played as it wont sound right.I like to have nice smooth and flowing mixes. Im trying to mix like u hear some DJ's do(glazby for instance) where u think "when the [censored] did he bring that in?!" as its suddenly on the breakdown of a different tune. Its bloody hard [censored]! CTW Members Mr Happy Posted January 29, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted January 29, 2003 not really as glazby and i dont play hard dance tunes we play hard techno and nu nrg (which is the hard house version of minimal techno) so u have less breaks and [censored] to contend with Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
CTW Members Biron Posted January 30, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted January 30, 2003 I play nu nrg as wel.At the mo im playing old stuff as there just aint anything decent being released. I know exactly wot style glazby plays and what i'd give to have his record collection! Quote ***slighty insane-its the only way to be!***
CTW Members Mr Happy Posted January 31, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted January 31, 2003 admittedly most of the hardhouse @ the mo is pure [censored], but there is sum good stuff andy farley - ur fear, that a superb tune to play with karims new tune (has a smiley face on the label) - sumthin with the word 'control' in the title erm - there r others but i honnestly cat remember em @ the mo but stuff on hydrolix/RAW/Stay up forever/cluster, just to name a few, is v good in hard house sets even tho thier banging techno Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
Guest
As with many things it down to each individual to adapt there own styles and when it comes to volume control of seperate channels it is one of things that you do naturally after you get the hang of one thing. Try a few differnt techniques and settle with what seems most natural. Practice makes perfect.
CTW Members Nimbus Posted February 12, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted February 12, 2003 When shopping for a mixer, the accuracy of the PFL is one of the most important qualities I look for. No PFL display... no sale! A lot of hard house and trance tunes have a big bass line drop in at an exact point... and it is imperritive -to me- to have the level perfect. eg... the intro of BK - REVOLUTION. The fattest ass bassline kicks in about 60 sec thru, and it sounds shite if the levels arent right (u want it loud as poss without distortion!) Im not skilled enough to hear the levels correctly in the headphones, while im sitting on 9000 watts of sub, so a good Pre Fader Level display is imperitive. the DJM 600 is cool, bit there is many cheeper models (ie Beighringer). Cheers. Quote IT'S ABOUT THE MUSIC - www.altitude.net.nz Ouch, Im getting sunburn form this stinking hot summer we are having!!!
