Some of these MP3 mixing things seem a bit of cop out - I think some of them do a lot of the hard work of beatmatching for you...?

That said, I'm just being old-fashioned ... DJing is about the tunes and the mixing, not the beatmatching ... it's just that I quite like admiring the skill & showmanship of a good DJ who has a mastery of both the technical skills and creative skills!

Mixing with vinyl definitely looks a lot cooler. smile.gif

surely as long as the DJ can play to the crowd it makes no difference what medium he plays from as alot of the time the DJ is hidden behind the booth any ways

if he was just using his PC it would have been something like NI Traktor.

Yeah that!

Seen a guy using this Oblivion on friday! Fair play it was pretty impressive, although as LE says a lot of the technicalities of mixing is taken out as you cue up in a similar way to a CDJ and Traktor adjusts the tempo automatically so Ive been told. Looks cool though grin.gif

It is one of the hardest parts of DJing, and yes the old-fashioned part of me thinks it's a cop out if the PC does the beatmatching for you. Then again, why make mixing harder than it needs to be?

I mean, if you're into making it difficult for the sake of it, why not tie one arm behind your back and wear a blindfold?

I suppose if you didn't have to worry about beatmatching, then you'd have more time to get the other more subtle parts of mixing right - the cueing, levels, EQing etc.

That said ... I reserve the right to be old-fashioned. What a fucking cop-out.
