an easy one that really gets on my nerves....

'holding the door open for someone' how hard is it to say thanks?

i usually come out with comments like 'no need to thank me, its ok' or 'next time i'll shut it in your face' lol.gif

SO know where you're coming from mate. (liquid) when people get shirty with me i try and react by just saying what i was going to say, but with a bit more determination, emphasis and maybe even talking slightly slower, emphasising, each, word.

Tesco's obviously think it's imporant because their till ppl almost always make a point of making eye contact an saying "hello". which i think is nice smile.gif

anyone thats had the unfortunate pleasure of going into london with me will know how irrate i get by the lack of manners & common curtesy (sp?) most people have there, im ok for the first hour or so but there is only so many times people can walk into you & they look at you as if it was your fault or push past without saying excuse me.

i make a point of correcting them loudly (but without causing a scene) by saying something along the lines of "No, please you just pass through" or "thats OK mate i have another eye/arm/leg who needs 2 anyway" when they push me.

its not to bad around here (leicester) think thats why i find it so annoying in the big smoke, the only problem i do have is if im at work & the travellers come in, they never use manners, but they have got to know me now & i either correct them or refuse to serve them if they dont use there please & thank you's.

Andy, Americans are so much more friendly and polite it's untrue - I felt like royalty out there (until I realised they're like that to everyone!). However, the downside is that some people come accross as being fake, and you get the feeling that some people are really having to force themselves to say "have a nice day" and flash a huge, bleached-toothed grin.

I am so sick of commuting into London now, as I am getting increasingly angry at the business people that will barge you out of their way, as if they are obviously the only people that REALLY need to get to work.

And don't get me started on school kids. The other day, I was getting on the bus when these bunch of 14-year-old rude girls started pushing everyone out of their way. One tried to push in front of me, and I was so pissed off, that without even thinking, I pushed her right out my way and went 'I don't think so love', which resulted in the lovely tooth-kissing that is so common in Wandsworth. I'm so sick of it, and where as before I would just tut and say nothing, now I will, because I'm not having little (or big) shits trying it.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

I'M HUNGRY!

I think it may be prohibitively expensive to have manners, since so few show signs of having any.

I called up a debt collecting agency on Sunday morning to pay £45 service fee for a check bouncing after buying CD's at HMV (even though I have a cheque guarantee card and it was authorised over the phone at the counter). Anyway I thought sod it, pat it, get it out of the way, no amount of aguing will get anywhere with these people.

So I called, this woman answered the phone like she had just got out of bed. Asks me for a reference number and then puts me on hold for 5 minutes. Takes me off hold and doesn't say thank you for holding. She then decided to tell me I had to pay £54, obviously I contended and quite politely said sorry but thats wrong, I'll find the letter if you could hold. As I'm looking for the letter she stops me and says no it is for £45, not 'sorry I got that wrong', so I became saracstic and said 'Sorry for getting that wrong, it is indeed £45, my apologies' to this she replies 'oh thats OK'. WTF, I kind of lost it a little then and said where the hell did you get your customer service skills from?!
