Well if you don't want to get too complex with specific components and suchlike then Dell are probably a good idea...they're quite cheap and not too bad for the money smile.gif

s'bin about 8 years since i bought one off the shelf....buy a magazine like pc world (or whatever the thickest one is you can find) look for any reviews of completely pc packages - they have them in virtually every issue.

they should compare different companies quality.

DONT GET ROPED INTO HARDWARE WARRANTIES.

hardware warranties dont cover the software you put on them youseld (personal files etc), and modern hardware is reliable enough that it doesn't usually break.

unless the warranty is a tenner or something.

good luck, please feel free to ask Maria any further questions xxx

as a general rule, £500 get you basic,

£1000 gets you nice

£1500 gets you lush

£2000 gets you something bangin'

Build your own. Very easy to do. baz.gif

DO NOT build your own if you are a beginner!

Even if you're quite handy with PCs, it can be bloody tedious trying to diagnose any problems you have. These days people like Dell sell dirt cheap PCs.

Don't be roped into buying anything too fancy. Unless you want to play absolute state-of-the-art games or use power-hungry music/video-editing software, even the most entry-level PC should be fine for wordprocessing / internet browsing / scanning images etc.

Don't be swayed by a more expensive offer just because it includes a scanner. To put it in perspective, you can get a perfectly decent colour flatbed scanner separately for under £30 these days!

A lot of companies try to give you a load of stuff you don't necessarily need to make the package look appealing, but things like webcams / scanners / basic printers etc are so cheap now, you should make sure you're not paying over the odds for them.
