have a djm 600 but when i record onto my laptop (out or rec in etc on the bottom left of the mixer- if you are looking at it) it sounds like you are in a really echoey room. It just doesn't sounds source to source.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

(BTW - got a Minidisc walkman? They're great for recording short [

Like Ian says - it's possible your soundcard is trying to be clever and put effects on the audio.

Make sure you're using the "line in" and not the "mic in" of your laptop (sorry if that's a bit patronising!) wink.gif Make sure there's no jizz or anything on the line in socket.

Make sure the record level is nice and high and that you're recording from the correct source on the Volume Control. (Best if you can specifically select "line in" rather than "what you hear" / "analogue mix").

Umm, I'm running out of suggestions here. Make sure you push the faders up on your DJ mixer and put the needle on the record. smile.gif

Alternatively it could just be a wank soundcard in your laptop. I've used some soundcards that seem to have shitloads of background noise. Have you got the opportunity to plug your mixer into another device (e.g. a hifi) to check that it's the PC that is at fault?

i run the mixer through the hi fi and it's ok. I'l try again tomorrow- sure I had it in all the right sockets and that...

suspect the soundcard is the problem, but we'll see.

thanks for the advice- have to get you round andy to give me some tips...

Sure, it'd be my pleasure. I'll take a look at your PC if you show me your big, er, smoke machine.

Yeah LE, Minidiscs are great for recording mixes, if you get one of the new ones you can record just under 5 hours worth...! Excellelent! smile.gif

Russell, I have a similar problem though when recording to the PC through the line in, there is a very slight background noise, but on mine it really is only slight, so i kinda make do.

I think it is just down to cheap soundcards (mines built onto the board) It is on my list to buy a decent card, but it will have to wait a little bit.

Apologies if the above doesnt make sense... i'm a bit pissed beer.gif

Cya Sunday! thumbsup.gif

make sure the line in on ur laptop is muted as well (as your only recording in to it, not playing the output from it) while the main output from the mixer is going through your speekers as normal

make sure the volumes on either your mixer and/or record vol on your line in are not set too high.

doh!

I was recording into the microphone socket!!!

Now it's too loud and distorted? I've turned the trim and all the control panel levels down but the amplitudes are still huge- do i just keep turning them down?

thanks for all the advice

hmmm... if i turn the trim almost all the way down it's not distorted (this is with all control panel levels really really low), but if I have more than one green light on the eq displays it gets distorted again.

Do I just have to record really low on the trim?

I had to adjust settings on the pc to get mine working, as I had exactly the same problem as you with distortion.

If you open up the volume control by double clicking on the speak icon in your system tray, go to options, properties, and in the box check the 'adjust volume for recording option' and then adjust your line in levels until your satisifed.

Its a bit of lovely person tho cos it takes a while

as computers are a digital medium, it makes more sence to record your mix quieter and then normalise it afterwards.

surely you have 2 outputs on your mixer (a main and a booth)?

just turn the booth volume down

Mine has to outputs (Pioneer DJM 300S), but it doesnt have a seperate knob of that 2nd output, as its for recording so its just another feed off the live...

Russ's one is the next model up i think so it might do... unsure.gif
