Agree with Ginge - has to be Bosh!

yeh the first Bosh was cool, but Eddie's 2nd bosh wasnt a patch to the 1st imo!!

Bosh 2.....

'hi this is eddie halliwell, i've been up all weekend doing this mix'

its only 60/70 mins long uhm.gif

was a dissapointment to say the least

agreed

maybe he kept doing it til all the mixes were 110% spot on and then copied and pasted bits on his PC throwing in a few special effect on the way....

maybe he just kept fucking it up and wanted it perfect before he put it on cd?

might give it another listen after his blistering performance at seriousworld...

EXACTLY!

That was what Phil was saying. How hard is it to bang a cd together? it doesnt take me that long anyway.

have you seen what he does?

It can't be easy to get that spot on every time and from what I've read he's a perfectionist...

And no doubt he was exaggerating about 'all weekend'...

Re: only being 60/70mins long ... umm you can only put 78mins on a CD anyway!

Re: taking a whole weekend to make the CD ... I doubt he was actually mixing for that whole time...?

When I make a CD that I plan to give to people, I want it to be shit-hot, so I plan (or at least short-list) all the tunes I'm going to play, and a few besides, before I even start mixing. Typically this is the most time-consuming part - if I want to really showcase my tune selection, I go through hundreds of records - including stuff from many different genres, not just the main genre of the mix - looking for anything good that may even vaguely fit in.

From here I short-list, short-list again, and then start guessing the approximate order to put the tracks in. Then I "flag" the 12-20 tracks that I most want to play, but keep the others just in case I have under-estimated how many tunes I can fit in.

I also have a quick play of the records to remind myself of any "gotchas" (e.g. really short or irregular intros) and to check for any "made in heaven" pairs of tunes (tracks that fit like a glove, to keep together in my box).

Prior to recording, I set up my PC / mixer / compressor for optimal levels without distorting.

Yes - if I fuck up significantly I re-record the whole thing. I do fuck up sometimes (and I don't even scratch). *EVERY* DJ fucks up sometimes. There's no way someone like EH will release a CD to thousands of people if it has fuck-ups on it. And his threshold for what he considers a fuck-up is likely to be higher than mine. A fuck-up can cost anything from 10 minutes to 70 minutes depending how far through the mix you are!

After recording the mix into my PC, I normalise all the volume levels, and mark all the track points. Then I go through the tunes and make the tracklisting.

All these tasks add up. The whole process can easily take the better part of a day, or more. I would take longer over the track selection if I was giving out my CD to thousands of people. And I'll wager Eddie Halliwell is more perfectionist than I am.

So IMHO, maybe a "whole weekend" is not an exaggeration.

Whenever i do a CD, I always fuck up the last mix without fail... So frustrating! sad.gif

Guess it must be the "yes, I'm almost finished and it sounds good" thought that always runs through my head before the final the track is launched

Well I havent heard Bosh2, but have heard Bosh1 (which most people say is better) and believe me when i say there is nothing "mindblowing" enough to warrant having to record the mix loads of times just cos hes a perfectionist. Technically, sure there were some quick mixes (3 decks etc) but there are thousands of DJs that can nail that sort of shit day in day out.

Ive only seen him live once, and didnt think he lived up to the hype. But I wouldnt judge him on one performance. That said, I do not like his whole "look at me scratch" routine. Ive heard god knows how many djs do it much better, and lets face it - its not exactly a new concept is it?

I have no problem with DJs taking alot of time to put together a well thought out mix to give out. After all, like andy has said, its a representation of your skills as a DJ. I just dont see were all the time and effort goes to with EH ??

Please let me know if he is "out of this world", and why - If you've seen him lately.

Oh, another bitchy little comment I'd like to add.....

A good friend of mine was the ressie at a wikid club here called the met. They booked Eddie to come over here (and im pretty sure it was his 1st gig over here)

basically at the club, no matter which guest DJ, my mate would always go back on for the last hour - it was just tradition in this club. After Halliwell had finished his set he stayed to hear my mate play the last hour. Near the end of this last hour my mate dropped DJ Elite "That fuct camera". When it builds up and up until the "cameras ready.....prepare to flash" bit drops my mate has a 2nd copy ready and starts looping that part over and over (spinning each record back and then playing it again, one to the other) The crowd went mad etc etc

Low and behold, a few weeks later, Mr Halliwell does an essential mix on Radio1. Guess what, yep - he does the exact same thing as my mate.

cameras ready......prepare to flash, cameras ready......prepare to flash, cameras ready......prepare to flash, cameras ready......prepare to flash, cameras ready......prepare to flash, cameras ready......prepare to flash, cameras ready......prepare to flash, cameras ready......prepare to flash,

i saw him at frantic and he played some decent tunes, even tho his mixing style grated to hell, he was my pick of the dj's that night. mainly due to the fact that the rest of the line up was piss.

when ever ive seen him elsewhere, hes been up against other dj's who also play music i like and hes just ended up pissing me off with his endless fucking about.

he can fuck right off as far as im concerned
