I was wondering if we could give the power to the people so to speak and allow them to upload their photos. OR to limit the chance of stupid photos being uploaded that have no bearing on going out then have certain people that will either edit them and then upload them.

 

We could maybe have a upload section and from there we could then take them and edit them, but that is dependent on how much time that person has. Better verification would be needed of course but this is just something i was thinking off. Maybe a user has their own photo section or something and is controlled by the database. More could follow from that i know, but it just to get the ball rolling on if it's a good idea or not.

i think HF has individual members' photo archives, if i'm not mistaken? :S

 

but i do think that anything that's based on a system of moderating and checking, making the mods do more work, will instantly become time-consuming and won't end up being done.

aye that's the only problem of time. But if we give total power to the users it is likely to be abused. HOWEVER if we have standard members that regulary take pics when out then they can have either FTP access or we could create some file uploader with PHP.

 

You could build a gallery system even maybe hackin the one at the moment to create custom querys that would allow us to pic photos certain users have taken to certain events. Or taken it even further if the photos are named to search for certain photos that people are in.

There is a 'Picture Post' modification available for ImageFolio (for $50) which allows exactly this. The only problem as you say is moderating it and controlling the amount of disk space used - i'm already using too much / looking into how i can get more!

 

(Before I install that mod though I want to get the Lightbox/Favourites mod which will be really handy. You can email your faivs to others - as links, not real images - and also choose to download a zip archive of all your faivs)

james as the gallery is built in php wouldn't it be easier to hack it and add these functions? I know the e-mail this link one is really easy to achieve. Only problem is working out how this works at the moment.

Gallery is actually Perl and the makers have made the code almost impossible to edit/hack! (cunts!)

I'm not a big fan of perl. Touched on it really briefly at uni but prefered to do the task in Javascript than perl. It was something easy if i remember correctly.
