CTW Members Mr Happy Posted May 20, 2003 Author CTW Members Share Posted May 20, 2003 is it a typical toxic phil set? right i'll b honnest.... the mixing is really good technically speeking (i didnt notice ne erorrs - not that i was listening out 4 em mind) the tunes picked were good(ish) tunes, but ur set did seem to dominated by breakdowns (most of which had no groove to em so it made the set stop and start all the time). having siad that the mixing did flow. this of corse is a personal opinion as (as its not secret) i love my techno and techno breakdowns still keep the energy going on the whole having said that i do like ur cd - but its just a bit to tune orientated rather than set orientated imo. btw - track 16 (unknown - unknown) i NEEEEED that tune sooo badly - it fukin rocks!!!! CTW DJs Phil B Posted May 20, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted May 20, 2003 cheers for your honest opinion mate, its always good to get different views from people the tune selection i have to say for me was limited as i havent really picked up much good hardhouse this year. i understand where youre coming from with regards to the breakdowns but they are a thing that i like. when you say its not set orientated im a little confused....i may have this wrong (if i have id like to know what you mean) you prefer some sort of beat all the way through a set? i like to try and make my sets build with the tunes slightly changing the sound as it progresses. as for the unknown track.....i should have updated the track listing before i sent the cds out.....its by Richie G - Insane - HardTrax 037 Quote www.djphilbenson.co.uk - updated 28/08/

CTW DJs Phil B Posted May 20, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted May 20, 2003 i think im with you...yeah all of the tunes are 'big' tunes in that sense but thats really because of tune availability when i play the harder edge trance stuff youll find that i have a few more 'unknown' tracks in the way that the big names arent boshing them out i do like to think that my sets flow the best i can with tunes ive got.....doing cds is always hit and miss really because theres no immediate feedback like when youre playing out its a fine balance between playing anthems and unknown tracks which is all down to the supply of tunes that you get the cd on the whole was more to show that im not just a hardtrance dj really Quote www.djphilbenson.co.uk - updated 28/08/
CTW Members Mr Happy Posted May 20, 2003 Author CTW Members Share Posted May 20, 2003 fair do's -like i said the mixing did flow well and if u had a limited selection of tunes then u did a bloody good job imo like i said i do like the cd - espesh 'glazby - ph4' (i so have to get that tune) and the unkwon tune (thats 4 IDing it 4 me ) would love to hear a typic set of urs tho - if u have a live set recorded to download or a cd that is repasentative? did i offer u a cd of my own (or a link to download it)? cant remember if i did Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
CTW DJs Phil B Posted May 20, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted May 20, 2003 am glad you like it...its always interesting to hear how people interpret how you do things typical sets.....i havent really got one to hand.....mys cds are really more for repeated listening rather than a 'dj' set so to speak. when i play out im a spur of the moment dj...the crowd reaction is what i feed off and play accordingly to the mood....i normally incorporate a few tricks ie beat drops spinbacks etc ill try an get on the case to do a live set style mix 4 u though ill just have to hit the rite mood! i forgot to giv u my addy so u could send me a cd as without broadband a download would kill me ill pm u it now...be gud to hear how you do things Quote www.djphilbenson.co.uk - updated 28/08/
CTW Members Mr Happy Posted May 20, 2003 Author CTW Members Share Posted May 20, 2003 yeah cool - still have to work on me beet matching (was particularly bad on this occation) this set isnt exactly how i would play out if i was to play out as i created sumthin that was ment to be more creative and so forth. altho i dont think i would play that much different in a club, just less trancy stuff and more karim tunes Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
