I'm not one for giving into blackmail which has shaped my views on this, I would have been more inclined to support his attempts to stay in this country had he not taken these actions, which IMO are a shameless attempt to manipulate the Government into allowing him to stay. Abas Amini would have made a far better case for himself had he not gone to these lengths, if the government were to give into this, then there is the possibility of copycat attempts.

with this it seems either way he will die wether he's allowed to stay or not as he surley cant have long so what is his point

he is prepared to kill himself rather than be killed.

iv not a prblem at all on asylum seekers as my mate is bout to marry a lad from kosovo, he has been granted asylum so they are not marrying ffor that reason, they have been together 2 years and they have a son together.

he is a nice guy so are some of his friends but iv also met some that are completely arrogant pigs and have had one thinkin that i had to do what he said at one point and that all women should obey males and should get a slap if they disobey.

he was from the older generation aged in his 30's where as my mates fiance and some of the other younger ones seem to respect a woman a lot better.

Whether he is a hero or someone less worthy I feel v v sorry for the guy... blackmail, or not, i can't even begin to imagine what a life he must have experienced to lead to this point (the article refers to several instances of torture, etc)...

 

IMHO there should definately be rules to stop exploitation of the asylum system... but implementing these rules should be done with as much compassion and humanity as possible... some asylum seekers will be corrupt/ dis-honest... some will be amazing people (the rest inbetween these extremes)... but most will have experienced a huge amount of hardship in their lives... more than most of us in the UK will ever face...

 

If we are going to improve the state of the world 'enforcing rules' and 'being tough' will only get us so far... what we also need is Compassion, Humanity, Empathy and Love for other human beings... other ppl we could ourselves have been had the big lottery of life born us into poorer, less sorted countries, rather than the relative prosperity of the UK...

Its not like that Ray - it was merely a talkin point for everyone and after posting that i didnt have an opinion worth posting about it at that time, i didnt know enough about it all, only what had been said on the news and a lil off that article as i only skim read that to make sure i was posting the right one!! If you wana know my opinion then personally i think its wrong what he is doin to think he can blackmail us into letting him have asylum or try and make the public feel sorry for him!! Ok so maybe none of us know the full story with it, but we're all entitled to our views so why dont u stop shooting people down with one word comments and post ur view in a rational manner like a grown up adult!!

pete this i will disagree with u on as u know full well bout kellie and how her boyfriend works his ass off, so does a lot of them, they are not entitled to government pay, a lot of them are also not allowed to work so those who have permits work there asses off for the ones who cant, ive seen 4 or 5 of them sharing rooms before and eating little even whilst in this country and i think we have debated this a few times whilst bein out in the car,

why dont you try finding out facts before sayin harsh stuff likje that as the very same could be said bout me or people simalar, im a single young mum who lives off government pay cos childcare costs too much and i dont trust cheap childcare with my baby so what do you say to that.

you work your ass off for me to live and my kids but you dont for assylum seekers as they are not entitled to government pay!!!

 

oh and another thing they are not here cos the war but the serb army who rape ther women and beat or kill the men up if they do not join there sides.

i'm saddened and angered by some of the responses in this thread. at a time when the world is struggling with so much bloody conflict and global lack of love and respect, reading such small-minded opinions here really is a surprise.

 

one of the things i love about the clubbing community is that i find i'm generally surrounded by intelligent, gracious people with a caring world-view. that does not seem to be the case here.

 

there's a cliche about thinking globally and acting locally. it's a cliche because there's a lot of truth to it. think about it.

i agree with you alisdair,

pete u would be exactly the same if you were in a poor country frightened everyday, watching friends or family being physically hurt. when they are allowed asylum they do pay n/i and tax as they are given a number. they are people like you and me, fair enough i said about some of the older ones bein arrogant pigs but it just shows why they are when they are out in a country like that. me and my friend did a lot of research whilst trying to help her fiance stay here 2 years ago, he was allowed to and they have a baby but we wanted to find out the truth. pete you've grown up surrounded by love, your family are there for you but try putting yourself in there shoes and seeing what they have been through, its called empathy pete, they dont want sympothy or our money they just want a nice peaceful place to be and yes we do have a lot of violence that i think is sickening in england but its not anywhere near as sickening as what goes on out there.

like i said they DO NOT get government funding they fend for themselves and i think only the kids are allowed nhs unless f an emergency but with some of the things u said early on like sending them back on a ship with only enough food and water to get half way well your just as sick as some murdering scum if you can think that way bout any human being.

 

like iv said before you wanna bring this up why not have a dig at me cos i live off social funding, or is iot because im BRITTISH and not foreigh cos if thats the way u think then that is quite racist.

well said that man our health service, schools and transport is crumbling around our ears, and the fukin government wud rather give our hard earned taxes 2 these sponging tossers who don't give 2 shits about the UK. Plus we r supposed 2 b in the middle of a war on terror, so shudn't our borders b shut 2 asylum seekers?
