But as a smoker, I do need somewhere to go for a puff too, a booth like Alex, was it, suggested w00t.gif

Ok sticking my neck out here as it's like replying to Alasdair unsure.gif

Is there not a flaw in your theory of black stuff up your nose (i'm presuming you mentioned it because of smokers) there is no smoking allowed on the underground so where does the black stuff come from yeahrite.gif

I never said the dust in the underground came from smokers. I just mentioned, in passing, that both a night out in a smoky club, and a couple of hours on the underground, have a similar effect on my snot!

As for where the dust comes from in the underground ... I'm not sure ... but the air is rich with it. If you look into the train tunnels, you can actually see it floating in the air (the tunnels look grey rather than black from all the shit in the air).

i always assumed it was from victorian days when they had steam trains down there blushing.gif

i guess its just where theres no windows open, so the place just gets full of it. (i hope that made sence)

I live in the countryside and still suffer from the black stuff.

con........why should we have more air conditioning in pubs? it causes more allergies such as hayfever & dust allergies & increases the spreading of airborn illness such as coughs, colds & virus's.....they would be the first to complain if there having problems breathing & cant have a good ole chuff on the bensons rolleyes.gif

this is a common misconception and completely and utterly wrong- an air conditioned environment is actually much better than a non air-conditioned one for the simple reason that it is fresh air that is circulated...

... people seem to assume that air conditioning systems merely recycyle the air that is already in the building, but in fact they are constantly drawing in new air and throwing out old air (hence the big fans you see on the top of many buildings).

In addition, many modern air conditioning units have in-built pollen filters and ant-allergy filters to improve the working (or other) environment.

but do you not think it is a wee bit uunfair to expect smokers, to not be able to go anywhere for a ciggie

do you think its not a little bit unfair that i cant go anywhere to get a bit of clear air? especially when i work 20 hours a week where around 100 ciggies are smoked per hour easily?

there is laws about car exhausts & the amount of fumes there alowed to emit & the health risks are a damn sight lower than cigeratte smoke, thankfully i dont put my face near a car exhaust.......i doubt it would do me any favours tongue.gif

but you do choose to work in that environment- maybe as you don't get paid danger money you should work elsewhere.

This is not meant to sound patronising- just a recognition that nobody HAS to work somewhere if they are not happy with the working environment- with an unemployment rate of below 5% pretty much everyone in the country could find an alternative job if they so desired.

so because some ignorant people blow smoke in my face while standing 2 foot away from me, i should get a new job? a job iv been doing for 13 years?????

maybe some people should have more consideration for others?

i was protected to some exstent for about 8 years as the pub that i worked at & the pub that i ran had a no smoking policy at the bar until a new brewery took over and abolished the rules that i & other landlords had set.

they thought that putting in an air purifier (a lot of public houses have these instesad of conditioning due to cost rolleyes.gif ) would combat the problem......needless to say it didnt thumbsdown.gif and the smell that it gives out when switched on the next day is hurrendous

i smell like a chain smoking alcoholic by the time i finish work

that is not what I was implying- but the health risks from passive smoking are basically the same whether you are working in a smoky atmosphere or actually having smoke blown into your face.

I am not saying it is right, merely saying that you knew full well you would be subject to passive smoking when you took the job so if you don't like it you should look elsewhere.

But I agree that ignorant people blowing smoke into your face is an unpleasant and wankerish thing to do.
