Mr H - you can, but (apart from having to keep track of them all) you want to make sure that lots of diff agencies don't sign u up for the same job...cos that company might get pissed off with having your details coming in from 10 different places. agencies usually tell u about everything they put u forward to..just wondered if any hardcore professionals out there had any advice. smile.gif

The last people to ask for advise about recruitment agencies, are recruitment agents.. They are worse than estate agents.. sell your granny for the price of a cup of tea and charge you commision...

Having said that they are quite good at getting you a job. I'd go with about 5 or 6,

prefereabley specialising in the area that u are intrested in. When they notify you of a potential position ask if they are exclusive, on it, and have been retained by the client, So u don't end up speaking with two agencies about the same job, or end up on wild goose chase as they try to place you with a company as a result of seeing an ad in the paper.

They will get the equivalent of a months salary if they place you so are very motivated. If they manage to get you an interview, spend ages asking them about the orgnisation, chances are they will have some inside gen.

The up their own arses one's do mock interviews, profiling, recruitment coaching, this is cos there is not enough work to go round so they sit around thinking up new and better ways of making candidates jump through hoops, to impress the clients, instead of doing what they should be doing and finding new and better candidates.

Do a lot of reaserch on the agencies as well, look on their websites, and see how they come across to potential employers.

good luck M8y

id say your best off going to interviews off your own back and finding a job that suits you, they do tend to rip you off, iv only gone through an agency once and i worked for minimum wage £4.20 an hour, and found out that i could have been earning £7.10 an hour if i had got the job on my own.

no help, i know but thought id add my little bit blushing.gif

Working for an agency can be great if you work it to your advantage.

If you get a placement and impress their bosses they may well offer a permanent job with full benefits.

Your also find Louise that agency jobs that are office based and I mean real basic stuff will pay more than £4.50 per hour.

£5.50 to £7 is more like it.

I used to be a recruitment consultant unitl recently, and you need to go to as many as you possibly can. The trick is to not tell them that you have been to any others though. therefore, if they think they have exclusivity on you, then they will work harder at finding you a job, as if they think you have gone to loads then they think there is less point working hard on you, as they only have a one in (whatever) chance of placing you. But by going to as many as possible, you have them all working to find you a job.

If more than one agancy puts you forward for the same job, the company usually go with the agancy who submitted your CV first. This doesn't piss them off as it is bound to happen quite often and they are used to this happening. It doesn't reflect at all on your application.

Finally, the rate of pay is only lower going through an agancy with temp work. If you are looking for a permanent job thwen it won't affect the salary at all, the agancy will just charge a one off fee when you start.

And btw, lots of big companies use one agency exclusively for all their recruitment now rather than deal with it themself (eg, Reed and HSBC), so if you don't go to as many agencies as possible then you might never hear about these jobs.

Good luck phil! smile.gif
