I don't think this is the real reason at all.

Most homophobes are simply being their stupid competitive pseudo-masculine selves. They are insecure enough in their own manliness/sexuality, that they feel they have to prove their masculinity by having a dig at less masculine people. Basically another form of one-upmanship.

 

I don't quite agree with the Freudian stance that "homophobes are closet homosexuals", but I think he kinda had a point...

To be fair, there is a slight difference here, in that gays are more likely to be, shall we say "sexually liberated"! (This is according to my gay friends!)

 

This is not because gays are less moral, but simply because (on average) men are more interested in sex than women, and since they don't have to compromise with a woman ... wahey! Also men are probably more likely to remain emotionally unattached to sex, so again it's less of an issue to sleep around. I'm not saying all gays are like this; this is based on my limited experience of the gay scene and speaking to gay people!

I think you've missed my point. If you think it's important to tell people that you're gay then good for you. I respect your guts (because the fact is, some people do have preconceptions about gay people). But to me it's as irrelevant as saying what colour hair you have, which is why I think it's a peculiar thing to put in your profile, which in turn is why I asked you!!
