Has the community spirit gone on CTW?

My problem with DJ's is not as harsh as you might think.

 

There are some quality DJ's on here both in personality and their mixing but when some gobshite comes on and says "Hi my names Bob and I'm a DJ" like we're all sposed to get down on our hands and knees and obey them. People like you Phil are different, you come on to the site and join in the banter and thats the best thing, you dont come on here and say you're a DJ in every other post, I think its great DJ's send out CD's, nothing wrong with that whatsoever, its what its all about but there some gobshites out there and THATS what I have a problem with.

This is a point i would like to pick up on - a lot of djs are waiting to be asked to play at a night - i would much rather receive 10 PMs per day for djs pestering me to play - it both shows keeness & willingness to want to play for us.

Andy Whitby phones me every other day to ask about gigs etc - i dont have to time to 'chase' djs up & see if they would like to play.

If someone is on my case all the time im much more likely to bare them in mind for a forthcoming set.

Would be a lot different if this is my full time job but it isnt - i just dont have the time to promote djs as i would like to do. I have a full time job plus promoting for other clubs & time is something i would like a lot more of

Some great points mate, totally agreed that there are 2 communities here (online & real life meets) - very well put.

This is going to happen but not in the form of adding a new forum. The event suggestions/details will go into a specific events section, away from the forums entirely. The forums will then be left purely to discus the events - especially in relation to meet-ups.

Sarah maybe becos of the points youve made about being busy etc, is the reason some or most dj's dont pester you as they feel that they are being annoying maybe!!

This is a very good point. We have had examples of some DJs who expect Sarah to chase THEM up or even do their profile etc.. (next they'll be wanting her to do the mix cd lol) People have to realise that it is down to THEM to drive their DJ career and to hassle Sarah to get things done for them - not the other way round. If you feel Sarah is ignoring you then just put up an FAO for all to see

It takes a lot less time for someone to call me though for a 5 min chat rather than me go through all the posts to see what djs we have playing which styles & to chase them up. Im never too busy for a 5mins chat or to answer a PM

thats fair enough!! I personally think this site is ace & everyone involved, James, yourself & all mods should give yourselves a pat on the back..

 

Its far more friendly, organized & more welcoming than any other site iv visited!!

 

Although at times it may seem your efforts are done in vain Sarah, im sure its not the case at all & you are appreciated

Thanks hun, its due to posts like this you actually realise how much support you do have, as someone said before people are quick to critisise & slow to praise, but its the critisism that seems to make its mark & get you down at times. Guess i was feeling down when i started this post up.

I think this is the core/regular members' issue (and mine) - the site was set up for free, people joined for free, and as I've stated in thousands of older posts the engine is here for 'everyone to help everyone out'.

 

Recently there has been a lot of abuse of the engine in terms of people using it to their commercial advantage. Its not right that people who are not part of this community should make money out of us. The simple answer is to remove the capability for people to do so, and this is going to be put in place once thought about properly.

 

I encourage you to contiue to use the site to your advantage however - so long as its not just for commericial or selfish reasons.

 

The vision & mission was and will always be this: To build up a large friendly community/network of clubbers so that one day we can put on large 'real' member events where everyone knows of everyone and the DJs playing are 'real' members themsleves

 

I have realised however that the chances of having one actual huge group where everyone gets on with everyone is very slim, but we can most certainly have lots of very friendly sub-groups within the comminity with of course massive cross-over between groups.

You have a lot to contend with, you, James & the mods!!, but when you do feel like this or feel as if someone is having a jibe, just look at the site, the members & all thats going on!!!

I know sometimes i get disheartened with it all, it takes 10 peoples praise to make up for 1 persons negative comments sometimes.

I have to see everyones point of view here - it irritates me as well to see promoters coming on here & posting about their night then not posting anything else at all. 4clubbers delete anything like that.

Am i not as bad though by going on other boards with ClubtheWorld in my signature or posting on other boards what a great board CTW is? Possibly i get away with it because i also take the time to get to know the members on the particular board as well though & post regularly rather than whenever im promoting something.

the other arguement is though that we are only an engine for providing information - like mixmag does as a magazine - if we were to charge for events to sumbit their listings it would justify it more but then we get members comments about being too commercial & only in it to make a quite profit? Is there a solution here?
