CTW Admin James Posted June 26, 2003 CTW Admin Share Posted June 26, 2003 SarahPvc said: if we were to charge for events to sumbit their listings it would justify it more but then we get members comments about being too commercial & only in it to make a quite profit? Is there a solution here? I think we should charge the main event organisers for submitting their events - but not as it stands at the moment - after the events have been stripped out of the forums, into a proper & professionally categorized/searchable section which the promotors themselves will their own login to so they can keep them updated. This is a service to the promotors and the result is a service to the members as they can quickly find the events they are really after without having to sift through hard to read posts. Of course not all the events will come via the promotors - some may not want to pay, some may just be up and coming and as we have done we will help those out. Its really the big boys / the main promotors we want to target. There will also be lots of other events which are not covered by any of the paying promotors so members themselves will have the chance to submit event suggestions/details free of charge. 100% of any money made will be put straight back into the development & promotion of the site, and with the long term goal of being able to put our own ctw members events. CTW DJs LiquidEyes Posted June 26, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted June 26, 2003 If I was DJing at a certain night, then I might let people know about it on the board. However I wouldn't expect them to feel pressured to go, unless they were genuinely into my kind of music.
CTW Members Rick D Posted June 26, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted June 26, 2003 I have just read this post and agree with everything FTB and Kev have said in it... Also what James has said makes sense and I would like to see it implemented, though you may have trouble getting promoters to pay for up to ate listings when if another member is going along, they are likely to post about the night in question... Sarah - At the end of the day, there are so many posts on here that people are only going to read what they are interested in, if a night doesn't interest them, they usually won't bother looking at it... CTW Members Dawn Posted June 26, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted June 26, 2003 Well the reason I joined the site was for one reason and one reason only, that which is stated on the home page, to be able to meet up with like mind clubbers no matter of colour or creed to go to other areas and know that if your friends can't make it, you certainly won't be on your own. My home town has very few nights that are to my taste music wise, so I try at least once a month to get to an event of my choice music wise. It is this site that has enabled me to do this and meet up with some great CTW members. I think the DJ's do play a major part on this site, after all they too are members, but like it has been said before if they only post to promote their selves or nights then I myself don't tend to take any notice, the same goes for the events, if I know I cant get to an event or don't like the said event I don't read the post perhaps this post will make me have a rethink on that one. Hopefully when I come down to London next month the reason this site was formed will come into play for me. I also hope that the online community welcomes the real life community. p.s. Bukey is a great ambassador for the CTW site Quote 👶

CTW Members Bukey Posted June 26, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted June 26, 2003 James - I think you've got the way forward right on this one. However, you will have problems getting people to pay up. People will just find ways around it - like getting members to post the info for them/having pseudo accounts as an ordinary member and using that to post. The only way I could suggest at the moment is to have a free listings, but with premium listing options - like some of the classified newspapers do. Bog standard, boring text = free - made to stand out = small cost - start adding graphics = costs more..... And maybe allow one of the big powers to sponsor the listings (maybe not even a club, but an energy drink or something of the kind - there are a few that are normally up for that kind of thing). Just my two pen'eths worth... Just my two pen'eths worth... Yeah, some good points Bukey - I had not thought of some of these issues - I guess I was mainly looking at sites like harderfaster.net and how they are handling their listings - which is how I intend on doing things here. its really the big boys / the main promotors i'm talking about - the ones who are constantly emailing me tons of listings that they want me to put up which I cant because I basically dont have time to sift through them all and do them manually. These people wouldnt have an issue paying for such a service - it would only be a small charge as we obviously want to have extensive listings for our members to browse and dont want to scare people off. its all down to me really to get off my ass and sort this stuff out once and for all so the same debates dont keep coming up ! as discussed offline once i can relax about the hosting and some other issues a bit more i can get back to focusing on development. CTW Members colin66 Posted June 26, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted June 26, 2003 And im sorry to say it FTB - but if you dont like the site & the way its run then why are you still here? Everyone posting on this thread wants whats best for CTW. People who make an effort to come to CTW meet ups on a regular basis (which is what this site is all about isn't it?) I think have a right to say what they think is best for the site and what direction it should be going in. I have to say I completely agree with his (and many others members) comments here. Sarah, you have put an unbelievable ammount of work into this site (and I'm sure I speak for many when I say it's well appreciated) but some things had to be said - member meet-ups at events such as SSnorth, SSHQ, Cross, Passion etc etc is the life blood of CTW (which of course you have played a big part in) - not smaller events catering for 'CTW DJ's'

CTW DJs Ian Cashman Posted June 26, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted June 26, 2003 miss_diddy said: SarahPvc said This is a point i would like to pick up on - a lot of djs are waiting to be asked to play at a night - i would much rather receive 10 PMs per day for djs pestering me to play - it both shows keeness & willingness to want to play for us. Andy Whitby phones me every other day to ask about gigs etc - i dont have to time to 'chase' djs up & see if they would like to play. If someone is on my case all the time im much more likely to bare them in mind for a forthcoming set. Would be a lot different if this is my full time job but it isnt - i just dont have the time to promote djs as i would like to do. I have a full time job plus promoting for other clubs & time is something i would like a lot more of Sarah maybe becos of the points youve made about being busy etc, is the reason some or most dj's dont pester you as they feel that they are being annoying maybe!! agreed... i think of ctw as a place to keep in touch with my clubbing mates. apart from mr.moo, my m8's in peterborough have no interest in clubbing.. id rather people on here see me as a clubbing m8 rather than a dj, but i have abslolutely NO outlet for my DJing and mix CDs other than CTW.. i try not to push my DJing in peoples faces, cos i find it annoying too when people do it.. i try and keep it in the ONE thread that i keep up to date in the dj section. i wish i could keep people regularly updated with cds, but it becomes really expensive. id rather spend my cash on going out to MEMBER MEETUPS(!!!) ive lost track of how many times ive been out to nights that i have no interest in to see people that ive met on here... but when i do go out i like to try and bring some cds with me to give out for 3 reasons 1>to give freinds a pressie 2>to promote my djing in the cheapest easiest way possible 3>to hopefully get people to come to a trance night meetup (even if ya aint into it... ive made the effort!!) as phil said... im a clubber first dj second (when it comes to ctw anyway). i think the club the world comunity spirit is still here, and will start to shine through more when we see more organised meetups at different clubs that are primarily a meet up... not just a case of 'theres 20 people off here that are going to sunny d'(lets call it a meetup).
