CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted June 16, 2004 CTW DJs Share Posted June 16, 2004 some nice wee rythmns goin there dude, but your percussion and kick are weak. Are you using the sounds from fruity? If so they are dyer, u need samples of kicks etc instead. this is a trap that quite a few people would fall into when using fruity I would imagine. Maybe this is what LTM is getting at? Too many folk just using the built in sounds? But keep at it dude Quote LiamStyles Bet you look good on the dancefloor *LiamStyles - mixes on rotation* Current mix "No Concept Of Time" CLICK HERE
Guest
the percussion are from fruity as i have next to no percussion samples i *think* i took the kick drum from somewhere else though in what way are they weak?
Guest
Ah, i think i've worked it out. i'm still to fine tune some of samples witht he eq's. if i cant get the kcik and percussion more punchier with the equ's then i'll look at finding new samples
CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted June 17, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted June 17, 2004 QUOTE (Mr_Happy @ Jun 17 2004, 10:41) if i cant get the kcik and percussion more punchier with the equ's then i'll look at finding new samples Trust me, get better samples. It's very easy to end up 'polishing a turd' when trying to make individual samples sound the way you like. Better to find a sound which is bloody good to start with, then fine-tune away to your heart's content. In particular, it's tricky to make a mediocre house kick sound into a good house kick sound -- it's got to have the write 'oomph' in it to start with, so that you can bring it out with the EQ/compression/etc.
Guest
hopefully they shouldnt take much work though as i've done little to no eq'ing so far and cirtinally havnt compressed the percussion/drums yet either LE: where did you get your percussion samples from? would you beable to knock up a cd with some that you think i'd like? CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted June 17, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted June 17, 2004 I will see what I can do, but why not just sample kicks and hihats off records? It's usually a piece of piss to isolate some drum samples in the intro of a record, where there's very little else going on.

Guest
to be honnest my setup isnt good enough to rip the samples as 'clean' as i would like. in an ideal world i would love to beable to produce my own kick drums and percussion but i'm not 100% how i would go about this btw tony - have you had chance to listen to my tune? i am interested to hear your input as we're both around the same level of experence

What do you mean? Just plug your mixer into your line-in. The quality should be near-perfect. Mate, no fucker makes their own kick drums (except in maybe electro, or very 'lo-fi' techno). I have a cheep mixer and soundcard so theres lots of noice in my recordings. its passable for mixes, but i'm not sure i would want that sort of quality for samples QUOTE Mate, no fucker makes their own kick drums (except in maybe electro, or very 'lo-fi' techno). its more for a personal sence of achievement rather than anything else. i'm awkward i know
CTW Members tommy Posted June 17, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted June 17, 2004 Nice tune Happy. Agree with what's been said. Sound like it could do with a bit of an 'Ecstasy' vocal in it aswell.
