TDV RIP!

1. I have heard several of TDV's older tunes. All very mediocre. (This is back when I was really into hard house 3-4 years ago.) To date I still haven't heard anything "special" by TDV. I'm open to recommendations though...?

2. I have got one of his reputable compilation CDs. Very very mediocre. 20 variations on a theme. Samey as you like!

3. I have also heard a few other TDV compilations, through a fanatical friend who also worships the guy, and (perhaps not coincidentally) is gay. All very mediocre.

Apart from TDV's mediocrity as a DJ and producer, I hate what people like him have done to the gay music scene - polarised it to either "camp" music (euro-pop, handbag etc) or "hard" music (TDV stuff). Why does the gay scene have to revolve around one extreme or the other?

(I'm not saying all gay nights are one or the other, but the vast majority are in my experience!!)

Back to the point: I can't believe how many people suck up to the guy just because he's dead...?

i have noticed that there seems to be 2 schools of poeple that rant on about tdv:

1) people too young to have been clubbing when tdv was alive

2) promoters

No offence, but its people that think like yoursewlf that are doing the dance music scene more harm then good banghead.gif

Why the [censored] should it be an elitist scene, and not open for everyone to enjoy???

Shut up, god you are doing my head in, how old was you when he died ?

Mate, you have hit it spot on there. THIS is the REAL problem with the music scene, too many arselickers in the industry that ruin the industry, its whats making me dislike the whole thing.

i aint branding him a sell out!!!! loadsa people do remixes of cheesy [censored], and to regard most of this stuff as anything other than remixes done for cash and not love is [censored] stupid!! he certainly didnt do it 'to expand the scene'

Never said HE did.... your probably right about him doing it for his own reasons, but the fact is, it will still help make other people aware that dance music is more then just 'doof doof'

So you would rather the dance music scene died off because nobody was allowed to enjoy it then??

And what the [censored] does age have to do with anything? Just because I was too young to be in clubs when he was still alive, doesnt mean I wasnt still following the scene flipa.gif

Agreed, Chris - I got into house music before I ever went to a club. But I never thought TDV was any good.

Let's face it, he's a very very average DJ/artist who would be nowhere near as popular if he was still alive! A load of people are cashing in on his death, and with great success judging by the naive hero-worship going on!

Case in point, why is this thread called "RIP TDV" and not "check out this tune XXX by TDV"...?

"Look at me everybody, I want a medal because I know about the origins of hard house!"

Sorry but I never saw the big deal about the guy. Can anyone name a classic track by TDV?

Just found an amusing quote in a news archive from August 2000:

Im sure you've probably heard Tidy Trax is going to be re-releasing the Tony De Vit classic "The Dawn" with a wicked new hoover remix by Paul Janes

Ha, nothing's changed has it!

Well 'The Dawn' is considered a classic, but i'm not overly keen on it to tell you the truth. I do still like i don't care tho

but the mix that every1 rants on about is a remix by paul janes. and the original mix isnt even hard house! i've not heard the original mix admittedly, but i've heard from lots off diff sources that the original is trance
