CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted July 2, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 2, 2003 1. I have heard several of TDV's older tunes. All very mediocre. (This is back when I was really into hard house 3-4 years ago.) To date I still haven't heard anything "special" by TDV. I'm open to recommendations though...? 2. I have got one of his reputable compilation CDs. Very very mediocre. 20 variations on a theme. Samey as you like! 3. I have also heard a few other TDV compilations, through a fanatical friend who also worships the guy, and (perhaps not coincidentally) is gay. All very mediocre. Apart from TDV's mediocrity as a DJ and producer, I hate what people like him have done to the gay music scene - polarised it to either "camp" music (euro-pop, handbag etc) or "hard" music (TDV stuff). Why does the gay scene have to revolve around one extreme or the other? (I'm not saying all gay nights are one or the other, but the vast majority are in my experience!!) Back to the point: I can't believe how many people suck up to the guy just because he's dead...?

Mate, you have hit it spot on there. THIS is the REAL problem with the music scene, too many arselickers in the industry that ruin the industry, its whats making me dislike the whole thing. CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted July 3, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 3, 2003 Agreed, Chris - I got into house music before I ever went to a club. But I never thought TDV was any good. Let's face it, he's a very very average DJ/artist who would be nowhere near as popular if he was still alive! A load of people are cashing in on his death, and with great success judging by the naive hero-worship going on! Case in point, why is this thread called "RIP TDV" and not "check out this tune XXX by TDV"...? "Look at me everybody, I want a medal because I know about the origins of hard house!" Sorry but I never saw the big deal about the guy. Can anyone name a classic track by TDV?
CTW Members Simon_C1562626685 Posted July 3, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 3, 2003 Well 'The Dawn' is considered a classic, but i'm not overly keen on it to tell you the truth. CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted July 3, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 3, 2003 Just found an amusing quote in a news archive from August 2000: Im sure you've probably heard Tidy Trax is going to be re-releasing the Tony De Vit classic "The Dawn" with a wicked new hoover remix by Paul Janes Ha, nothing's changed has it!
