I guess but what pisses me off if when people have to constantly state they hate someone / they are crap without giving any details / examples / being subjective. The other people who wind me up are the ones who cant help themselves saying "thats an old joke" etc.. etc... totally and utterly pointless Quote James@ClubTheWorld.uk CTW Admin | ClubTheWorld.uk | Twitter | Instagram Clubbing the world, together ... CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted July 9, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 9, 2003 James! So far the only constructive criticisms of EH are that: 1. he played too "techy" (fair comment, a matter of personal preference) 2. he [censored] up - fair objective criticism
CTW Admin James Posted July 9, 2003 CTW Admin Share Posted July 9, 2003 yep - i wasnt refering to the guy who stated the 'too techy' comment - I was referring to others who could only say "he's shite" as most people know (i hope ) I am quite willing to change my views on ANY subject when presented with a good argument. When nothing but 'shite' is presented I often end up thinking lower of the said person and often then ignore all their future comments Quote James@ClubTheWorld.uk CTW Admin | ClubTheWorld.uk | Twitter | Instagram Clubbing the world, together ... I was seriously impressed when I saw him at Slinky in Bournemouth. He played a very energetic, yet diverse set, right across the board. Just what the doctor ordered. And the scratching was well-used without being overly in-your-face / reeking of novelty value. Admittedly I did hear him do a so-so set on Radio 1, some of it was good but he played some very naff hard trance (suppose some people like that stuff) and some overly minimal techno (again just my opinion). I guess it depends on the crowd he's playing to. I can understand people criticising him if he [censored] up, but to be fair, technically he's a lot more ambitious than many other acclaimed DJs, so that's what you get. Loads of my fave DJs have messed up at some point. I've even heard the much-revered PvD do a very sloppy mix, big deal! As long as they don't do it all the time. It sounded very wrong, apart from [censored] up a few times, what he played just didn't go with the rest of the night, even though he was there for ages before he was on, so he knew what was being played... Most of the people who had been dancing their arses off before he started were suddenly walking off the dance floor... The one's who stayed were the one's who had come just to see him because they'd heard of him, not because they knew anything about HH as I saw from all the people standing around getting in the way the rest of the night... James - Do you have an opinion of your own that you won't back down from ever?? So tell me why you thought he was the dogs nads???

So tell me why you thought he was the dogs nads??? Rick, with pleasure ... I've been following Eddie very closely for just over a year now and he stands out to me as one of the bigger risk takers in a set and he really goes for it and pulls it off. The energy flying round the DJ booth and the rest of the club is amazing, peoples faces lighting up and smiling - and not just the followers. When I watch him I too get a real buzz - I hardly get a buzz from any of the other DJs as I feel I kind of 'know what to expect'. I saw him in Ibiza last year and this was the only time I saw him [censored] up - he looked completely battered (and/or knackered) but what made that set amazing was the fact he was so pissed off that he fooked up and cared that much about making a good impression that he continued to play for over half an hour over his set time - it was the end of the night and I'm not lying when I say security actually had to come over and physically turn off the mixer for him to stop!! By the end of it, due to the late time, it felt like a mini house party - it was amazing. The amount of times I've seen him jump on top of the decks and look like he's flying as well - and I dont see this as 'look at me' I see it as 'I really fooking love this music'. A good friend in liverpool also had him back to her house for an amazing afterparty right at the beginning of last year and everyone gave amazing feedback. I've also seen him play garlands and loads of other excellent clubs like the cross in london. I would say he puts in a [censored] load of effort and is unhappy with anything but his best efforts. Sarah and I sat in on his interview with Wub at the cross and he came across as a real genuine guy who wasnt up himself. He's always got a smile when I / others see him. To me (I dont know a [censored] load about DJing but this is my opinion) he is a very technical DJ - always thinking up new tricks on the mixer and decks and of course I absolutely LOVE his scratching. Ok sometimes the build ups can go on a little too long like one I remember last Saturday but the fact was the crowd fooking loved it. You say the floor started to clear ? I was towards the back and it appeared at least as rammed as it was before his set. Eddie comes across as a unique DJ to me - and as far as I'm concerned thats what its all about. Far too many of the other DJs just dont stand out in any shape or form to me. HE’S ONE OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE DJS ON THE CIRCUIT Quote James@ClubTheWorld.uk CTW Admin | ClubTheWorld.uk | Twitter | Instagram Clubbing the world, together ... CTW DJs Ian Cashman Posted July 9, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted July 9, 2003 ive slagged him to [censored] elsewhere, and for quite a while, cos i dont like him at gatecrasher and i dont like scratching, but on saturday he blew me away.. and has made me think about what im actually doing... You've obviously seem the guy more often than I have, James, but that's exactly what I thought after seeing him at Slinky. There isn't one DJ on the planet who wouldn't [censored] up at some point if they were as technically ambitious as EH is. I'm not just talking about scratching, I'm talking about going back and forth between loads of records in a short space of time in a very unconventional but clever way. I'd rather listen to a technically ambitious set with a couple of mistakes than a run-of-the-mill set. And I'd rather listen to a diverse set with a couple of tunes I don't particularly like than a samey play-safe set with no surprises. I think the biggest problem with the explosion of dance music and the popularity of DJing, is the sheer number of mediocre DJs who play the same tunes, don't dare to tread outside of one specific genre, and are too easily contented with smooth but unimaginative mixing.
