Guest Jay
i should imagine it had a cache so it doesnt jump. i might be wrong.
CTW DJs Tony P Posted June 30, 2004 CTW DJs Share Posted June 30, 2004 what is that then mate, can you explain a little more
CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted June 30, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted June 30, 2004 Jay is right. A cache (or buffer) is just a bit of internal memory for "reading ahead". It must have a cache, for several reasons: 1. So that it starts instantly when you press PLAY. Without the buffer, then would be a small pause while the CD spun round to the correct position to read the next bit of music. Old CDJs didn't always have this buffer, hence they didn't start instantly - the delay could be quite noticeable, so you had to do more pissing around with the pitch control to get the track in time. 2. So that you can scratch. When you're scratching, all you're doing is moving the 'current song position' around within the memory buffer. The hardware inside the CDJ is capable of playing the clip of sound backwards or forwards at any speed; meanwhile, the CDJ will be constantly judging whether to read 'ahead' or 'behind' so that there is never a buffer under-run. An under-run is when it tries to play part of the buffer that has not been read from the CD yet. 3. As Jay says, for 'anti-jog'. It doesn't matter if you knock the CDJ a little, because it is playing the music directly from the memory buffer. The only way to bother the CDJ is by constantly jogging it, until the play position has got to the end of the buffer, but the CDJ has been unable to read any more music from the CD. Here's an analogy: when you move house and you're loading up the car, it's helpful to have one person stacking up the boxes in the doorway, so you can continually go backwards and forwards between the doorway and the car. The stack of boxes in the doorway is like a buffer; you always want at least 1 or 2 boxes to be waiting for you when you come back; a 'buffer under-run' occurs if your mate goes for a shit, and you get to the end of the pile of boxes, and you've got nothing to carry! CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted June 30, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted June 30, 2004 QUOTE (Tony.P @ Jun 30 2004, 13:14) you like your's don't you andy? Oh yes. I love mixing with it. But I haven't put enough good material onto CDRs yet. I've been too busy playing with my new producing toys, so the CDJ has been slightly neglected! Not enough hours in the day. I've been sorting through my records, and set aside a pile of tunes I want to 're-edit', because they have a crap bit in them or a dull breakdown or whatever (but I like the tune apart from the dodgy bit). So the plan is to hack them up in Cubase and burn them to CDR.

CTW Members Nick G Posted June 30, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted June 30, 2004 QUOTE (LiquidEyes @ Jun 30 2004, 11:50) I thought "relay play" meant it would play the whole CD on one deck before sending a message to the other deck to start playing the other CD. Ideal for parties where you don't have someone to DJ properly - it means you can stick 2 albums on, but you don't have be there at change-over time; you can just put the next album in the non-playing deck in advance. Maybe I misunderstood! Hi guys. (taken from my CDJ1000mk2 operating instructions....) ~Relay Play Using Two Players~ If you connect the terminals of this player with another CDJ series CD playe using the supplied control cord then you will be able to Relay Play. *Set both players auto cue function to ON (the [A. CUE] indicators will light in the displays). * Set your mixer's fader control to itscenter position. 1. Begin playback on the first player. 2. When the currently playing track ends, playback will begin automatically on the standby player. 3. The first player will enter CUE standby mode at the beginning of the next track on its disc * By repeating this operation, the two players can be used to perform continuous relay play. *By loading new discs on the standby player, you can construct a continuous program of whatever tracks you wish. *By setting a Cue point on the standby palyer, you can perform relay play toany desired Cue point on the selected track. Hope that clears up any confusion on the matter

Ask me next week it did take me a while to get used to mixing on it, even thou it emulates vinyl, it's not the same at all for me. still i'm getting to grips with it ok now and can mix quiet consistantly on it.
