Honesty

Do people actually believe in being honest? And by this I dont mean by nicking a few sweets here and there in local corner shop, I mean to people - and their faces. If you do, how seriously do you take it? Do you think if someone tells you something you automatically trust / believe them? How wrong is it when someone you trust tells you something only for then to have doubts about what this person has said. How wrong is it when you then find out this person has been doing it only to benefit themselves. Its even worse when this person has said something to you about what someone else has 'allegedly' said about you. Why does this happen, can some tell me why someone would deliberately make up bullshit? Can someone also tell me why when you believe someone and what they have told you they are then speaking to someone else and saying something completely different?

Are there any liars out there that can explain this or would you like me to go into more detail ??

i do. i don't always do it but it's important to me. i lie to myself, which annoys me but i'm working on it.

i've plugged it before and i'll plug it again. for an excellent perspective on the importance of honesty, and how to deal with how other people talk to us, read The Four Agreements. smile.gif

nice topic.

not really - these kind of posts are getting really tedious now. either spit it out, give us a link to the thread(s) so we can read what you're actually pissed off about, or just shut up.

Never mind detail, English would be good. rolleyes.gif

At the risk of sounding like DC I think I know what you are talking about. Most people tend to believe things they are told by friends, this is only natural, you can't go through life distrusting everyone and second-guessing all the time. When you've been told something that can affect things seriously tho, you've really got to get your facts straight before going off on one.

I try to be honest all the time. I can't help it, I'm too honest sometimes. shrug.gif

At a guess

a)They are trying to impress you, by telling you what they think you want to hear.

b)They are sociopaths.

c)They don't like you but haven't the balls to admit it and just lie, then talk behind your back.

d)They are compulsive liers

e)Part of an overly elaborate joke.

f)In an attempt to protect someones sensibilities, they nievely think that lying is better than the truth.

Someone once said, (Im going to have to paraphrase this) "You have as many personalities as you have friends".

e.g. some people try to be everything to everyone.

Just my opinion, not thoroughly thought out.

But do we forgive them because they are our 'so-called' mates ?

right - can't you be honest yourself and just spill the beans and say exactly who or what it is you're annoyed about?

if this is just intended to be a "general discussion" on honesty then i apologise, but it doesn't seem like it to me. ahem

The problem sometimes I KNOW they are lying but convince me otherwise, that pisses me right. Certain people dont reply to posts like this. Funny that.
