No one is ever truly honest, lies can be told in all sorts of ways, for example we have all told a little white lie in our lives. Unfortunately there are some people out there that are compulsive liers, blatant liers, and utter cunts. There is not a lot you can do about it but just stay well clear. Most people I surround myself are my true mates and I know I can count on them totally. I'm not saying that everyone you meet you shouldn't trust but as people have said, you need to get to know someone first and earn their trust and vice versa. I am too honest for my own good sometimes and can also be very naive, you have just got to have some intuition/instinct about some things, which generally most people have.

Kev, whoever is bothering you so much, confront them and ask them why they are/have lied to you or said something behind your back. If they give you an answer that your not totally happy with then stay clear and then it will no longer bother you.

Diablo, regarding your mate, it's a shitter that he has blown his mates out for his new relationship but thats some new couples for you (not all before everyone jumps) they are in the loved up stage and just want to be with each other all the time. Your mate shouldn't be such a blatant lier though. Give him some time and I'm sure he will grow out of the loved up new stage and come running back to his mates, and if he doesn't then he's a wanker and not worthy of your friendship.

Right then peeps, thats it for me, home calls.

Whoever says honesty is the best policy is lying to themselves as well as everyone else.

i think it's arrogant to project like that. honesty with onself and with others is quite possible.

in your police example, there's no reason to believe somebody might choose option "a". it's called 'taking responsibility for ones own actions" and, at the risk of sounding like a parent, it's a quality sadly, sadly lacking in many people these days.

don't assume that what's right and wrong for you is automatically the same for the rest of the world.

kev

this is obviously causing you a lot of stress. you have, perhaps, more control over this than you realise.

life is 10% what happens to us. the other 90% is how we choose to deal with it.

good luck

I never said honesty with oneself and other people isn't possible, I just don't believe there is anyone alive who has never lied about anything in their entire life. And as soon as anyone choses not to be 100% honest, it proves that honesty isn't always the best policy, which was my point.

il turd that lol

i get annoyed when someone isnt honest with me, i try to bear in mind they think it cud be for the better on my behalf but i think honesty saves alot of time and hassle and alot of flaseness, i find if people get offended by my honesty theyre normally no the people i can get on too well with because i dont get it back and they cant take it in the right way, i spose it all depends on what its about and if people are sensitive etc but i myself think its necessary at most times!

that's flawed logic.

the choice could be the worst choice under the circumstances - made for the 'wrong' reasons. if that choice results in something 'bad' happening, that choice could actually reinforce the theory that "honesty is the best policy".

But, surely someone who always believes that honesty is the best policy would never chose to lie.

no matter for whatever reason, they chose to lie, so at that point they decided that honesty was not always the best policy. Whether they later come to realise that it was a mistake, at that point they decided it was not always the best policy.
