profile picture vs. avatar

i though tthat my profile picture and my avatar were two different things. i'm trying to change my profile picture but can only find the field for the avatar (80 * 80) picture.

 

please tell me i'm just overlooking it...

If you upload an image you will only allowed to upload a max image size of 80 x 80 pixels. This will then be your avatar AND your profile pic (annoying I know, it would be nice to have 2 upload options)

 

If you set a URL to your image it can be as large as you like. The image will be displayed in its original/full size on your profile and displayed at 80 x 80 pixles in your posts / as your avatar.

 

I purposefully set the upload limit to 80x80 pixels due to data transfer costs. I 'could' change it to be larger but still resize avatar but I want to see how much bandwidth we take up after the move to Bukey's server fist of all. Its possible having larger uploaded profile pics wont make any difference but they will still be much slower to load/resize on your avatar for posts - especially for new visitors - if there were 10 posts being displayed, all from different members and all the images were say 800x600 (resized to 80x80) then the page would take ages to load the full page. So what I'm saying is I chose to have smaller pics to increase page load times.

not ctw/our bandwidth (unless the pic is hosted on our site but you cant link the large 800x600 pics in the gallery anyway as they are protected for this very reason)
