Blink, we know Neon, thats the difference, people die everyday, should we mourn all those people that die of lung disease, cancer, heart attacks, car crashes etc? No. But we should have every sympathy for those close to us, like neon, I'm upset as much as anyone, hes a nice bloke, a part of this community as much as anyone on here and truly my thoughts are with the guy because WE KNOW HIM. Anyone we know that knows someone who has dies deserves every sympathy. couldnt agree more, and blink, we know you too, so there no way we'd be taking the piss about what happened to your dad..cos of course that would be out of order.. there was a GENUINE concern from myself and all the other members there for how you must have been feeling...

Why the [censored] does it matter if people feel for people they have never met, it can and does happen. Its not insincere and to be honest it [censored] pisses me off when you and the others tell me I'm wrong!

I think this is the first post that has truely disgusted me on this site. My first thought when I heard the news was "[censored], was that anyone from CTW", followed by "[censored] does anyone from CTW know these people" (I was thinking of Sarah specifically then.)

I have been through I.T.U after an RTA, and I hate to think what a post like this would have done to any of my family had they read it.

 

No-one is disputing whether it was stupid for them to be driving at that speed, but who has never taken a risk? [speeding, drugs, unprotected sex, jaywalking]

My point was, if my father had died, and it had made headline news, how many stupid fucks would have posted on here before finding out that it was my dad?

 

Creamy, it was in no way directed at you in that sense mate. I was genuinely toucehd by EVERY message/PM I received about my father.

 

My point was more that it could have been one of SarahPVC/anyone from Leeds close friends who died in the accident, and people posted without even considering that, which I found totally distasteful.

 

People also posted without thinking what Dani/Clubbing_Si/cyberdonkey may have made of it. I know nothing about Neon's accident, other than that it was an RTA and involved speed, which is close enough to this example to have a resonance with me

As a matter of fact, I knew two of the girls (Lyndsey Heaps and Teri Regan) - though not very well! A friend of mine, did know them very well though, and it was through him that I met the girls!

The other victims are names as Caroline Wright, Mark Crawford and the driver James Cummings.

 

It saddens me, that this is the second time there's been a crash in Leeds, and involved people I 'knew' - one being a lad who got killed in a hit-and-run last year on a road litterally a minutes walk from my house!

 

Then, a couple of months after that, a middle aged woman got knocked over (yet another hit-and-run) on the road outside my house! She was fortunate in the fact that she survived, but unfortunarte that she got hit when the drivee was actually trying to knock down a group of youngs lads!

 

Any road accident upsets me as that is how I lost my best friend 4 years ago. He would have been 25 on the 15th of this month (and yes - it was this Tuesday!)

 

No matter what kind of driver you are, no matter how good / careful you may be, things like this do happen and always will!

 

And, I am really sorry to ask this, but who is Neon?

The problem is that it can be perceived as a stock phrase. "Our thoughts go out to..." is the most generic, politically-correct comment you can make. It's like when Michael Buerk puts on his "compassionate" face as he announces a tragic death on the evening news.

 

Maria, I'm not having a personal dig at you! I'm just saying, I can see why people get annoyed by pseudo-sympathy.

 

Back to the topic: what I find tragic about these kind of accidents, is that it only takes one person to be a tit, and several people die tragically. I know several people whose friends/peers have died in similar (and worse) circumstances. It is quite hard-hitting when people of your own age, let alone people you know, die needlessly.
