A third beheading

does anyone know why 'beheading' is the way that hostages are being murdered? Is it a particularly Arabic/Islamic thing?

Having seen the video of Nick Berg being headed I really fail to understand quite how anyone could have such disregard for human life.

it really does make you wonder...

I don't care about the right and wrongs, but do feel Western society is less barbaric...

FFS, Al-Quaida are hardly representative of middle easterns as a whole, my dad grew up in Iran and my cousins used to live in Saudi Arabia, and surprise surprise most people over there are perfectly normal.

In every culture you are always going to get extremists, it's like people from other countries taking Frederick and Rosemary West as examples of British behaviour.

not sure i agree.

without being able to quote details, we scientifically and methodically invent things that can kill ppl, from individuals, to countries.

As Jessica said, they are called extremists for a reason.

"normal" people kill "normal" people with guns in the states, over here, and the rest of the world, deliberately, everyday. For Reeboks.

the execution of hostages does not make us want to leave quicker, but to make us want to get rid of these sick people more

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

I am not saying they are representative of society as a whole, but the fact remains that most Arabic countries still cut off peoples hands for stealing etc etc which is more barbaric than any legal recompense there is in the UK.

For exactly the same reasons (i.e. executions) I would say that the US is more barbaric than the UK.

Just because the majority of people are 'normal' does not necessarily mean a country is or isn't barbaric. No-one would argue that the fundamentalist Christian lobby in the US is a majority, however, the fact that is even a significant minority means that it is relevant...

Admittedly...

I presume stealing with just your feet is a little more difficult!
