CTW Members Titchy Posted July 29, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 29, 2003 why is ENCYCLOPEDIA such a nasty world to spell? and READ and READ... two different words with two different meanings yet spelt the same! no wonder people get confused

Aren't they the same word with different meanings (and pronounceations) depending on context? I could be wrong though... English is a fooked up language - it's because it's made up of a combination of so many other languages.... CTW Members Ginge Posted July 29, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 29, 2003 What about words that sound the same but are spelt differently like... THEIR, THERE and THEY'RE, WHERE and WEAR, HERE and HEAR, YOUR and YOU'RE, ATE and EIGHT. So many more but cant be arsed to list the lot. I'm not surprised so many people have difficulty using grammar correctly.
