CTW DJs Tony P Posted June 24, 2004 CTW DJs Share Posted June 24, 2004 I was recommended to use this for creating loops by a dj, as he said it's very easy to get going on. which sounded great for me as i've only just started to look at production. When looking at it for the first time it seems identical to "sonic foundry (video vegas)", which is great for me as i know how to use video vegas quiet well. does anyone know what the differences are between the 2 thou, other than not being able to edit video in acid pro. cheers
CTW DJs Chris-Hutchinson Posted June 25, 2004 CTW DJs Share Posted June 25, 2004 QUOTE (Tony.P @ Jun 24 2004, 10:50) I was recommended to use this for creating loops by a dj not very good for making loops to be honest.... its good as an actual sequencer though when you have loops made up already
CTW DJs Tony P Posted June 25, 2004 Author CTW DJs Share Posted June 25, 2004 ok cheers chris, maybe i missunderstood what i was being told, it was sunday morning in twist...ha ha what i do remember is being told that it was easy to use which it defo is. but is there much point using this if i plan to sequence things in cubase? so what would you recommend for editing/creating loop and samples, i'm using soundforge at the mo, and think it's fine, but is there something easier or better you can suggest mate. (I say maybe, cos im useless when it comes to actually working the things - i know what I want to do, just not sure how )
CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted June 25, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted June 25, 2004 Your alternatives for actually recording audio in, cutting and pasting audio, trimming your loops, etc... SoundForge CoolEdit [plus the high-end sequencers - Cubase etc - all have audio editing built in, so you might not need these programs if you've got Cubase anyway] I haven't used either SF or CE, but they're supposed to be fine. Personally I use GoldWave - it's not the most advanced audio program, but it's dirt cheap, you can try it for free, and I've got used to it and know all the keyboard shortcuts! Your alternatives for making loops -- i.e. bunging together a load of samples into a pattern... Fruityloops (ooh controversial! -- but I still love it); Logic (according to Ian, it has everything you need built-in); Cubase in combination with a decent 'soft sampler' plug-in (I have been using Native Instruments Intakt; now I've got Kontakt which is better). Then there's the sequencing - i.e. arranging a mixture of MIDI, loops, audio etc. So there a lot of different combinations of program you can use, if you see what I mean. You can record in samples using one application (e.g. SoundForge), make your samples into loops in another application (e.g. Fruity) and then sequence your loops using a third application (e.g. Acid). Or you can do everything in Cubase, in combination with a decent plugin. I think Logic and Reason can probably do the lot, without any external applications. But ask somebody who knows more about those programs, like Ian and LTM, because I can't really comment.

CTW Admin James Posted June 25, 2004 CTW Admin Share Posted June 25, 2004 Cool Edit is a very very good free one - I think I used Cool Edit 98 then 2000 - not sure what version there is now / if its free The same people who wrote ACID wrote Vegas - not sure if they've been bought out ? SoundForge is owned by Sony now I think and meant to be the nads, as is Wavelab. Problem is you can end up with too many tools/utilities and not end up using anything properly - i say stick with one you like and only one Quote James@ClubTheWorld.uk CTW Admin | ClubTheWorld.uk | Twitter | Instagram Clubbing the world, together ...
