educating the listeners

how important is this as a DJ?

personally i find DJs who play anthem after anthem a little tiresome. i like DJs that are willing to challenge the listeners (within reason mind). play something that peple might not expect or a record that hasnt been tried and tested before

i personally think thats the marking or a true genious behind the decks, not someone who can beat match in 20 seconds, but someone who can tred the fine line between crowd pleasing and challenging repeatedly

that is my personal quarrel with harddance. while there are some imagnative DJs out there, the vast majorety seem to be tidyboys or lashes wannabe's

whats your thoughts?

thats exactly why 'hard dance' is so stale.

matter of opinion really.... some ppl think techno is repetitive bollocks that leads to nothing... some dont. if we all like the same "shit" then this world would b pretty boring tongue.gif

where did i say that? just cos theyre incorperating techno into there sets doesnt mean there educatin people...

it if they're introducing a new sound to harddance then isnt that technically intraducing people to a different style of hardhouse - ie educating them?

not like that at all. its more like "this music is different. have a listen and see what you think"

DJs that play shit music will always be shit no matter how pioneering it maybe

did a post once which went something like...

4 parts do being a dj

ability to mix (use the equipment)

ability to read the crowd (make the sound change during the set)

ability to get the tunes

imagination (doing something you're never gonna hear again, ever)

what ur saying Mr H is probably a mixture of 2 and 3..? p'waps

you could probably take the most famous dj's at the moment, and see how many of them do all those 4...you'd find out how important each thing is.
