Twas my third summer in a row and despite caning it 24/7, the island was very quiet as a whole and appears to be on borrowed time...

Highlights were Ferry, Eddie and Shan at Judgment Sunday, Circo Loco (DC-10), Underwater (best night out there), Tiesto and PVD at Cream & Erick Morillo and Jon Carter at the Radio One party (alas was flying out when Luke Neville was playing).

Ultimate Balearic experience is still Bora Bora though, was dead chuffed when randoms in Cream came up to praise us for 'aving it on the tables and taking over the place at the Manumission carry on, carry on last Tuesday... icon_yippee.gif

Clubs are just going to HAVE to cut their ridiculous prices or perhaps more clubs like Garlands from over here putting on more free parties for people.

Its crazy and needs to be sorted otherwise people will stop going.

As soon as we can put on a free event we bloody will ! smile.gif

i was reading somewhere that apparantly there gonna get rid of a few of the super clubs so that the island doesnt attract so many tourists.

my nanna was telling me that she went to ibiza about 30 years ago and there were hardly any clubs on the island and it was more of a family place to go. although familys go there at the moment i think they want to make it more of a holiday island for everyone rather then just people who want to go clubbing!

also i think they want to "restore it" in a way cos i think tourists have made it to comercial and have ruined parts..

also because there are other places to go now like aya napa and valeracki (however you spell it!) etc.. alot of people may want to go to other parts of the world and explore more

just my oppinion!

The thing is that proper clubbers are still prepared to pay ridiculous prices for top quality nights like Underwater, Subliminal and Cream - these nights were packed out, it was the other nights and places that were really suffering as people just seemed to have wised up... Manumission was absolute gash this year, with yet another PA from P Diddy.

The Radio One party and Garlands at Kanya went down well, but I just think the island has reached saturation level as clubbers just arent prepared to be ripped off unless they are guaranteed quality DJ line ups or something uniquely balearic like Circo Loco.

Am not sure if I'm gonna bother with the closing parties this year now...

Thing is it's been going nearly 15 years. I worked for a holiday company and was over there. And in Majorca, a lot 12/13 years ago, and Ku (now Privilege), and Pacha and other clubs were already going strong.

Trips to these clubs were the highlight of most peeps holidays...Then the whole acid house / baleric beat stylee happened and the rest is history. So people have been out there, seen it done it, and bought the mug and the t-shirt...big time. So less people go.. so the promoters make less money, so they charge more for drinks...and entrance...

Loads of promters will go bust this year..

And next year will be a disaster, cos lot's of nights just won't happen, but i think 2005, will see a rebirth...not sure what form but i bet it'll be kicking...

My boyfriend and I arrived on Aug 8th which was the beginning of the Radio 1 Weekend, and the island was rammed. That is the peak peak time however, and according to the locals it was a bit quiet this year and the business was down - but then, don't people always say that? No one is going to say "actually we've had yet another amazing summer and made loads of £££", what they do say is "we've had a [censored] summer and made no money so please accept our extortionate prices". Does that make any sense...

Didn't go to Manumission this year, it's just moved away from being a club into something more like a weird theatre (judging by last year's experience, and this year is apparently even madder).

We Love Sundays @ Space was very busy, as was Cocoon at Amnesia, as was Radio 1 party at Eden, as were their daytime parties on the beach near the windmill just outside San An. Went to 2 Bora Bora parties which were incredible. No words to describe that experience.

As for Aya Napa and similar places, I don't understand how they can be even compared to Ibiza???? Isn't Aya Napa full of 18 year old pissheads and garage clubs? A completely different vibe to Eivissa. Also, Ibiza has a long tradition of not just clubbing and dance music but also the special seasonal "lifestyle", certain things you tend to do there like watch the sunset and applaud when sun disappears behind the water....Then the firedancers come out...Then it's finally completely dark and it feels like everyone just goes HUH, PARTYTIME!!!!!!!!!!! I guess some people will say that's cheesy but I love it, and it gives a real feeling of togetherness...

Anyway I'm rambling this is my post-Ibiza-blues kicking in again........ frown.gif

I totally agree with you about not being able to compare Elvissa with Ayia Napa or anywhere else for that matter. I think the real problem this summer is that there have been so many notable failures and some clubs have been embarassingly empty.

Ibiza is special as personified by the whole Bora Bora vibe and too many promoters have tried to cash in on this, sooner or later the bubble will burst. Maybe this isnt a bad thing though as maybe us proper clubbers can reclaim the isle for ourselves and introduce a true community spirit back into clubbing (sensible drinks prices in clubs would be a start).

Alexsandra, hope you're not feeling too down about being back here, I'm sure Mr Hawtin notworthy.gif will make things better for you on Sunday!

I can live with the club entrance fees but it is the soft drinks, particularly water that is just plain ridiculous. €8 in Pacha and Privilage. What the f*ck???????????

Sparky - you got our pictures from Bora Bora developed yet mate?

Reason its quieter compared to Greece etc is coz trance/house etc isnt a big thing anymore amongst 18 - 25 year olds like it was 5 or so yrs ago - ok theres a few that age like it but the majority are mid 20s + and are past going on group holidays with their mates - their the ones (18 - 30s) who the clubs make their money out of and now those types mostly go to Greece for r n b garage etc, in a way its good as it means the clubs arn't full of arse holes n beer boys jsut on the pull, but at the same time its that that makes Ibiza so dead now.

Also since the Euro has come in Spain isnt as popular as its not sumwhere 'cheap' to go on holiday no more!

I agree with u Aleksrandra its def still a wikid place to go but for the types it use to attract who jsut went for the cheap beer n to pull then Greece has taken over!

The way you put it bunnykins it doesn;t sound all that bad really...

i would guess a lot of ppl who live in ibiza will be pretty happy to if the Club 18-30 types head off to different parts of the Med, even if it does mean that tourist numbers reduce

ps - Ibiza Town/ Bora Bora/ Salinas beach were still as good as ever when i was there a week ago nod.gif
