CTW Members Phil rr Posted August 13, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted August 13, 2003 ur probably right alasdair. i've tried music match and some other software, i get scared (annoyed) when an application tries to be everything, takes over my computer, plonks stuff in my systray/start menu/registry. i prefer having lots of small applications that do 1 single thing well, cos they tend to be stand alone, not take up 15MB, not take 2 mins to load, not crash, and not ask for registration i've got software that rips from cd (ACXtractor), software that converts(lame enc), software that manages ID3 tags (in my start menu somewhere), and a couple of editing utils i hardly use. CTW Members Phil rr Posted August 13, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted August 13, 2003 also, personally ripping speed doesn't bother me, it can be as slow as it needs to give a good result as far as I'm concerned (lame enc uses fraunhoffer (sp) compression as i'm sure u already know -- other methods used to give a swishing effect at high frequencies, again my knowledge is about 2 years old now) since I'll only rip it once but listen to it a lot. but with pc's at 2ghz+ can't really go wrong
