I'm finally trying to get my finances sorted by cancelling my overdraft and not using my credit cards and then they (yet again) inform me that my credit limit has gone up again - this time a jump from 7k to 10k - just on one card! Its crazy! AND ILLEGAL in mind mind. If you dont ask for it they shouldnt give it to you !!! If they hadn't of upped it then I would have carried on as normal...far too much temptation for someone who's a shopalholic! CTW Admin James Posted August 14, 2003 Author CTW Admin Share Posted August 14, 2003 its very irresponsible of them fair enough only you are in control of your finances, but there is something about this whole 'carrot dangling' which is just WRONG - should be made ILLEGAL in my mind. If i DID spend the whole 10k on the card I wouldnt even be able to afford the minimum payment right now so f^ck knows how they work that figure out. I'm easily led/tempted and they know this - its wrong in my mind. Same with store cards etc... I'm now 31 and only JUST learnt my lesson, going to pay off all cards and GET RID of them. I've got one credit card with a limit of 300 quid and I only put things on it that I know I can pay off as soon as the bill arrives. I'm happy to say that in my 20 years on this planet I've payed no interest of anykind for anything. Wow, thats really cheered me up thinking about that. Say your cars broken down or you missed someones birthday and you didn't have the cash...there is nothing you can do about it. This way it's easy to just say well I really need to get it done and I'll pay it back soon but really you just end out paying more and more in interest and then one month when you've over spent and can't make the repayments etc etc. credit cards, overdrafts and loans are nasty nasty things...but at the end of the day it's money and it's never easy to say no to money when you need it! Like I've spent about a hundred quid on my car in two years and that includes 2 replacment engines. If I havent got a lot of money I don't spend a lot of money. CTW Members JoeDrawb Posted August 14, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted August 14, 2003 I managed to get all my debts down to one Visa card, with a limit of £5000 on it (the balance is now at about £2500)..I had a nationwide one for 6 months and paid 0% interest, then I swapped over to Tesco's and got 10 months 0% interest and that is just about to come to an end, so have just applied for a Barclay Card, which comes with another 6 months at 0% interest.... so hopefully i'll pay it all off, without paying any interest....
