CTW Members Phil rr Posted August 19, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted August 19, 2003 @ Camden palace on sat. seen him a couple times before, and... i think he's [censored], sorry i've seen him wave a record round in the air so much i thought it was gonna snap, and when he messed up a mix, he spent about 2 minutes looking at the crowd shrugging saying "sorry". not just getting on with it. if the dj messes up, ur trollied and ur gonna look at him, you dont wanna see some bloke 'apologising' to ya. but on sat night, all he was doing was playing the overplayed too-well-known resonate style floor fillers, nothing special, no fancy mixing just joining the tunes, and it was pure mix bang break build up hang bang mix into next must have happened for at least half an hour. wasn't sure if it was cos i was off me nut, then maddox came on and turned it into some real hard dance sounds which flowed properly. stevel hill sorry. CTW Members Mr Happy Posted August 20, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted August 20, 2003 i totally agree with u there m8. i never rated steve hill. i find rob tissara to be much the same as well. 2b fiar tho, theres sumthin about maddox's style. fuk knows that he does as i've not seen him play enuf times to form a judgement, but he knows how to play tunes as if they were all written speciffically 4 his set. thats a mark of a tru DJ imo Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
CTW Promotors Lisa Posted August 20, 2003 CTW Promotors Share Posted August 20, 2003 Well I disagree with both of you, ok he is not the best money can buy, but all the same he is good & entertaining to watch............. but thats my opinion only each to their own eh lads!! CTW DJs LittleMissLoud Posted August 20, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted August 20, 2003 I don't find Steve Hill's mixing is very good, but he's got wicked stage prescence, especially when he runs out to the crowd! I don't think he should apologise to the crowd, it just highlights the fact. Lisa Pin-Up once said to me "If you [censored] up, don't let it show. You probably heard it 10 times worse than the punters, who are pickled. Just carry on and give it extra large behind the decks!" Quote I'M HUNGRY! I honestly don't really notice the djs mixing when I'm [censored] I just stomp to the tunes but I do agree that he is an entertainer and thats more important to me. IMO Steve Hill is a good, entertaing DJ, yes forsure there are some better DJ's out there who mix of a better standard, but Steve is not a write off. NO!! CTW Members Mr Happy Posted August 21, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted August 21, 2003 in his deffence tho, generic hardtrance doesnt leave much room 4 creativity or technically wizardry. CTW DJs LittleMissLoud Posted August 21, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted August 21, 2003 And techno does? Look at EZ, people will slate his music, but he's a pretty talented DJ. I would prefer to hear good tunes mixed badly, than bad tunes mixed well, cos as they say "The Dj's only as good as the record" Steve Hill ain't my fave, but I'd rather hear his 'generic' Hard Trance, than be bored off my ass by a load of tunes that just plod along. What is it with some people - they only seem to like things if no-one else has heard of it, and anything that becomes popular is dismissed as 'cheese'. Have you ever though that some tunes/ producers/ dj's become popular cos they are good? This elitism really pisses me off at times, as I feel some people are just trying to prove a point how underground they are, and it's very pretentious in my opinion. Quote I'M HUNGRY! Thank you Alison, a point I have been trying to make for a long time !! At the end of the day too many DJs take their DJing too seriously. The job of a DJ is to make people dance end of, by playin good music. Mixing ability plays a part to some degree but is secondary to your tune selection. I love my DJing so much, but thats becos I dont take it too serious. Im loving the tunes as much as the crowd, if it was possible i would DJ from the dancefloor! I want to play a set of stuff that makes the crowd go mental, not wow them with my endless amounts of tricks and seamless mixes. I get slated by other DJs for having this atitude and they say Im not dedicated enough and should make way for a more hungry DJ. But the end product, for me a packed dancefloor, speaks volumes. This is what its all about

CTW DJs LittleMissLoud Posted August 22, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted August 22, 2003 Liam, spoken like a true pro - how can people slag off that attitude and say you ain't hungry enough? In an ideal world, we would have the best tunes, AND the most fabulous technical ability, BUT, as a clubber, when was the last time you thought "Wow, what mix is so tight I just wanna dance to it"? DJ's are there to give the crowd what they want, and so I believe you gotta come from a clubbers perspective, I.e. think what you would like to hear if you were on the dancefloor. However, some dj's feel that it's all about showcasing their technical ability - this is all very well, but when they put this over what the clubber wants, then they are not doing their job in my eyes!!
