Being a DJ...

Seriously though, what is everyone's obsession with Glazby?

Yep, he is a good DJ, and I do play quite a bit of his stuff, as his recent stuff is pretty good, but in my opinion he doesn't stand out as an amazing DJ.

I swear, at Damnation, it was just ridiculous! He was meant to be being interviewed, but about 10 people off this site insisted on being in on the'interview', just so they could be near him!

If Jesus had walked in on a huge cloud at that moment, I think everyone would have turned round, then ignored him and got back to Glazby!!

I'm a big fan of Lisa Pin-Up, but I certainly don't worship her to that extent, and only mock offence when people slate her, where as some people, if you slate Glazby they get the hump - I just dont get it!

I'M HUNGRY!

he barly has time to interact with the crowd.

Other DJ's do so why cant he? Dont give me this bullshit about 'hes concentrating' because other DJ's can do BOTH just as good. Dont talk so much [censored].

erm, i might have a little thing to do with 3+ decks, fx, samplers. ie completely re-writting tunes on the fly flipa.gif

Death to po-faced dj's!!!

If you are looking at the DJ instead of dancing, they can't be doing a very good job, can they?

I think "rewriting tunes on the fly" is an overstatement. People exaggerate the creative power of a DJ. Anyone who takes producing seriously will laugh at the idea of a DJ being able to do anything significant "live" - there's only so much you can do, even with 4 decks and the wackiest effects units.

However, while I still concede that DJing is an intensive experience (a good DJ shouldn't be sat on his arse for one minute!) it doesn't mean that "po-facedness" is excusable.

Sorry but I find it hard to relate to a DJ who plays dance music and yet seems to have no interest in dancing. I literally can't help (at least) bobbing around a bit when I'm spinning. I can't understand the "nerdy" DJs like John Digweed who just stand there looking bored. Do they actually enjoy their own music???!!!

thanx for all the comments! smile.gif

i've just thought of one other thing (have slightly editied the third point without considering)

imagination.

when you mix over signums "ahh" 3 minutes before you actually drop the tune in.

when you apply all sorts of mad special effects to joy energizer's 'vvvvt' or yves deruyters back to earth's extended 'beep' section.

playing two records over each other because together they sound special, speeding one up while keeping the other constant because of the effect.

something which is more than just the 'being able to mix'

in other words taking the tunes, and doing something with them which is totally unique to the set that you're doing - this is something which marks a set as superb, rather than just a set
