as a whole i find hard dance harder to mix than techno (go figure shrug.gif )

ne ways, tuen in my box that i find hard to get just right r:

karim & tinrib - i've got ya the lead in just doesnt seem to want to play along. every time i drop it that tune just drains the energy from my set yet its still a pumping tune shrug.gif i know i'm doing sumthin wrong but cant workout what cry.gif its not teh beatmatching either as its not really a challenge getting it to pop.

karim - dont [censored] with me cuz i love my bass in tunes i have a naughty habbit of turning up the bass eq's so i find as this tune has next to no bassline i cant play it mid set. only works as a starter tune frown.gif other than that it doesnt get ne easyer to beatmatch than this tune laugh.gif

i think its a consentration thing. i get board mixing hardhouse v v quickly and loose the consentration.

but techno doesnt have ne rules so i can bring tunes in when ever i like etc. that flexability keeps me entertained 4 longer i guess

I find BK & Andy Farley - 'Accelerate' the hardest thing to mix coz just as I think I've got it, it starts speeding up and completely fucks my head up! rolleyes.giflaugh.gif

After playing at a "retro" night a few months ago, all dance music (techno, trance, house, hard house etc) is a piece of piss compared to playin 80's and 90's stuff.

Back then tunes werent made for DJs to mix, it was all about the actual songs / tunes.

Nowadays dance music is made with the DJs in mind, and it makes everything so easy.

HINT: mix it BEFORE it starts speeding up laugh.gif

tune that I hate trying to mix in is the Vinal + Devotion rmx of 'Crazy Styles' - starts off with dnb, then kicks into 180bpm freeform.... only problem is, when it kicks in, its fullon so a right pain to mix banghead.gif

Coming soon...

4th March 2006, VALVE SOUNDSYSTEM @ Sheffield Uni with Pendulum, Roni Size, Dillinja, Sub Focus and more!!!

Fingers Burnt - Legoland

For two reasons;

1) It's clear plastic lime green vinyl, and hurts my eyes to look at sometimes.

2) It takes a good 90 secs of intro before anything resembling a beat kicks in.

Harder. Faster. Better. Stronger. Badder. Smarter. Wub Wub

Liam, "Retro" tunes are piss to mix, even old skool/hardcore - but hey thats my generation from when i started mixing (91 - 97)

The thing with retro/piano tunes is that back then there was no specific layout of the beats/bars, so there wasn't necessarily a correct point to 'bring tunes in' you have a couple of bars that can be 'caught', most tunes from about 94 onwards were set out with a correct donomination of beats (Think Ken Doh - Nakasaki, Nush - U Girls etc. etc., this kinda era)

Practice makes perfect, and this is something i have no trouble with, but it's getting hold of the old tunes (and they are not cheap nowadays) to play around with, again something which i have [censored] loads of, after 12 years collecting

muppet... its a piece of piss.. look for where the vinyl changes colour about a minute in.. youll find a well defined first kick..

It could help if I could mix properly in the first place though. I'm still at the galloping horses stage.
