i know you can do it. its called partitioning. (HELP ANYONE??)

good idea just to store all your files on the non program partition. then if owt fucks up it, itll just be the program files that are fucked.

you need to check ya internet pc for viruses tho by the sound of it

You can split the drive in two after windows is on it using Partition Magic. I've done exactly the same. i've got 30 gig for C, with windows and apps, and 80 gig for all my other media, like AVI's MP3s, Installation media etc etc

I think maybe a 20 gig C drive for Windows as apps and a 40 gig D drive for storage should be more than sufficient.

Would also recommend that once you've got your PC/laptop setup to how you want it, you use Norton Ghost to make an image of your C drive and dump it to CD (2 or 3 CD's roughly) that way if it all goes FUBAR for any reason you can restore it back in about 10 minutes, without loosing any of your hard work that stored on D smile.gif

sounds cool, think i might try this, so what would you split a 60 gig harddrive into, if i am mainly gonna use it for music production

the pc at home is totally fucked now, same as the laptop.
not looking good

I just rang Lisa to boot it up in safe mode and make a restore point / set the settings back to the last good configuration, but it aint having it !

Your system 32 file is corrupted matey - best take it to the PC shop and get it fixed, although she has set up the other tower, so you only have a basic drive now with the basics on !

Partitions are the way forward !

It has to be something you have installed to corrupt the file.

You wana be carefull what you download / accept and make sure it's bug free etc

just spoke to lisa

hard drive needs to be replaced, gonna cost £80 and will lose most of the stuff on it.

bloke don't recon it's a virus, just thinks it's knackered...... i still think it's odd that the laptop and the pc both went in a matter of 2 days.................... unsure.gif

well they didn't have any more of my laptop in stock, so i got a refund.

i'm now on the look out for a new one, any suggestions guys

well youve bought the soundcard so youre sorted there.

just get a similar spec laptop to the one you had tony.

as much memory as it can hold 512 should be a good starting point.

theres no hard and fast rules of what to suggest to you to be honest.
