CTW Members Diablo Posted September 19, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted September 19, 2003 How much is a DJ worth? You read about all these top names being paid stupid amounts for playing, so I ask the question, How much is a DJ worth? Surely there is no guide that exists that says "you must pay this DJ, this amount of dosh" is there? I know amounts vary depending on where/when you play, and some people charge by the hour/by the night, so should there be a 'going rate'? Alot of my friends (non clubbers) rate DJ's as overpaid people, because "all they are doing is reiterating other peoples music", what they dont understand is that DJ'ing is an artform, and what makes different Dj's different is their style, and experimentation. Thoughts?

Thoughts? A DJ is worth a proportion of the amount taken for any given night - if a DJ helps boost a lineup, and therefore attracts more people through the door, he is worth more than someone that puts people off. At the end of the day it's down to how much a club can afford to pay a DJ, based on how much money a clubber is willing to pay for a ticket, and based on the overheads that the club has. It's then down to how much a DJ rates themselves and wants, and how much the club/DJ (or DJs agents) can negotiate. Sometimes you can have a producer who is [censored] behind the decks... This would then put people off going to an event where said producer was going to play... CTW Promotors SarahPVC Posted September 19, 2003 CTW Promotors Share Posted September 19, 2003 Most djs charge the amount based on how many people they can attract to the night & the club still make a profit. For example one dj might charge £50 to play in a 150 capacity venue & £150 in an 800 capacity venue. Quote INCISION Leeds - 23rd Jan - Passion Records Tour Night!!
