Is Dance Music Dead?

Something is rotten in the state of dance; clubs are closing left, right & centre, the record industry can't seem to find the next big thing, and even Ibiza is feeling the pinch.

Meanwhile, the freedom to dance that was a vital part of rave culture has been replaced by all-nighters sponsored by mobile phone companies. Has the dance music bubble burst? Have corporate clubs killed the spirit of dance music?

Is dance music dead........What do you think and if you say it's dead, what do you think the reasons are for it?

i wish people would stop saying this,

dance music is in a decline cos the trendies are buggering off, theyre off to find a new music format to ruin.

The more underground end of the dance scene is still very much alive and kicking, and will remain so.

Also worth noting is that tastes within dance are changing as well, people are getting bored of the toss trancey HH tracks that are coming out en masse, and are looking elsewhere: techno, hardcore gabba etc

with a bit of luck "funky" house will suffer a similar decline before long, and the irritating mullet sporting tryhards will all bugger off and stop ruining perfectly good house nights.

On a side note, an interesting thing I read in that little magazine handed out in smile drew attention to the fact that when everyone was into bands, everyone wanted to be in a band and would go and start bands and make music.

With dance music, most people want to be djs and go out and get decks. This would explain the perceived lack of creativity in certain scenes. If you get more people interested in making dance music then you'll get more people with new ideas that will breathe life into the scene.

There's a lot of [censored] out there but there's also some bloody good music being made/played. You have to find it which is part of the fun of being part of a subculture instead of a homogenised popular culture.
