Here we go again, lets slag someone off cos they've done well/doing well etc etc sleep.gif Im not into hero worship but De Vit was one of the top dance DJs in the country when he was alive, and tunes like Are you all ready?, I don't care and The Dawn are still guaranteed to pack a dancefloor an incredible 5 to 6 years after they were released, theres not many tunes you can say that about. He's achieved his 'legendary' status because it was him who really started the hard dance scene and thanks to him me and thousands of others have had some fuckin amazing nights out notworthy.gif

You on the other hand Liquideyes have done nothing, perhaps you're jealous of his attention? wink.gif

i don't think ppl are necessarily slagging TDV off cos he didn't produce awsome club tunes.

I think ppl are just a bit tired that his name is being overused and money made from something which ppl will part money for.

if tiesto was gone tomorrow, no ones disputing he may be an awsome DJ, but i'm sure the scene would be flooded with "him" till everyone was [censored] sick of it shrug.gif

Not at all. I'm slagging him off because he's so over-hyped, and I still don't understand what the big fuss is about. There are lots of people who are doing well, and I don't resent their success.

I'm not having a dig at people like yourself, who actually have something constructive to say. I'm having a dig at the majority of bandwagon-jumpers (who can't even name a good tune by TDV) who spout all this RIP bollocks, or want a medal because they've met him in real-life.

Isn't it a remix of "Are you all ready" that packs the dancefloor though...? What about the other two, does anyone play any of his original mixes? Case in point, a stream of tunes being released years after his death remixed by other people. Spot the cash-in.

Every track I've heard by TDV sounds very dated and, well, pretty cheesy. Fair enough if they were good "back then", or evoke a pleasant sense of nostalgia, but that's not really the measure of a "classic" is it.

I can't be arsed to read most of this thread. It's the same old ground from the same old atagonists.

I like TDVs tunes. I respect the guy as a producer. I never actually heard him mix live, as I've said in past posts, I started clubbing very shortly after his untimely death.

Now to say not only you don't like his music (which would be fairy snuff, but you don't have to say it a thousand times a year) but to slate other people that do like his music is just, plain and simple, [censored] wrong. I don't insult your integrity, so don't you dare insult mine.

I went to the TDV Memorial in Birmingham in June to listen to some top DJs in a venue that I like and to support the TDV Memorial Fund. A fund that I have a lot of time for as it actually helps charities both here and in London help those dealing with HIV and AIDS. I think it's great that someone can help put into worthy causes, and if TDV's name helps do that even after his death, I for one think that's brilliant.

The simple fact is that, like it or not, TDV did start a chain reaction in the hard house genre of clubbing and there are many, many people that like his music. His sales figures speak for that.

Oh, sheep are we? Yes of course, because something is popular it makes us sheep. Not at all. I think for myself and make my mind up about most things. I could say the same about some of you lot - you're sheep (to a smaller group, maybe, but sheep none-the-less) because you're just trying to be rebellious and cool.... But I wouldn't... Because I actually have faith in you that you make your own minds up.

Now just because you don't like something, don't go slagging off others that do. Nothing ever has been, is, and ever will be to everyone's liking.

Antagonist, gee thanks! smile.gif

Fair enough. Ditto LML, you're the first person I've heard actually say they like a specific tune by TDV.

but to slate other people that do like his music is just, plain and simple, [censored] wrong.

I'm not slating all people who like TDV. Just the gullible hero-worshippers. (CaptainC, to some extent I feel the same way about John Digweed - I think he is over-rated too and I find the hero-worship he receives disproportionate and, well, slightly sad.)

...to support the TDV Memorial Fund. A fund that I have a lot of time for as it actually helps charities both here and in London help those dealing with HIV and AIDS...

Spot the tangent! Did I criticise AIDS charities...? Just because his name is put behind worthy causes, does that mean I'm not allowed to say what I think of his music? confused.gif

Sales figures speak for popularity not quality! The Teletubbies attained great sales figures... Anyway this is a tangent, quality is subjective. What I'm whinging about is people who are arse-licking him just because he's brown bread, or because it's "cool" to like him because he started hard house, or whatever. TDV is not the first DJ/artist to be worshipped for these reasons, he won't be the last either...

People can say what they think about me when I'm dead. Hopefully it will be the same as what they said when I'm alive! smile.gif
